Job Purpose:

The Prescriber is a highly skilled and experienced professional responsible for providing medication management for ADHD to clients of Abercorn Clinic. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, the post holder will deliver evidence-based care in line with the highest professional standards.

To support safe and effective practice, Abercorn Clinic is committed to providing the post holder with regular supervision and professional support from a senior clinician. This role is crucial for ensuring a seamless and integrated service for clients requiring medication as part of their therapeutic care plan, and for maintaining the clinic's commitment to high standards of quality and safety in line with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) principles.

Key Objectives:

• Safe Medication Management: Prescribe, titrate, review, and manage pharmacological interventions safely in full accordance with current best practice, professional guidelines, and relevant Scottish legislation.
• Multidisciplinary Integration: Actively collaborate with the clinic's team of Psychologists, Nurses, Therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver a seamless, holistic care plan for every client.
• Quality Assurance & Governance: Contribute proactively to quality assurance activities, clinical governance metrics, and formal inspection processes to ensure the clinic meets and exceeds regulatory standards set by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS).

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments, ensuring clinical justification for ADHD medication is documented alongside the consideration of non-pharmacological alternatives before initiation.
• Develop individualised, client-centered treatment plans that require documented informed consent and a written monitoring plan detailing the frequency of reviews and required screening tests (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure).
• Perform rigorous risk assessments regarding substance misuse, dependency, and potential diversion for all Controlled Drug prescriptions.
• Provide comprehensive patient education covering expected therapeutic benefits, potential side effects, safe home storage, and the clinic's zero-tolerance policy on medication diversion.
• Maintain meticulous clinical records in Splose, ensuring every prescription includes a specified review date and maximum duration to support clinical governance and legal compliance.
• Prescribe, review, and manage medication in accordance with current best practice, professional guidelines, and relevant legislation in Scotland.
• Work closely and collaboratively with the clinic's team of Psychologists, Therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to client care.
• Participate actively in internal multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and clinical case discussions.
• Adhere strictly to the clinic's safeguarding policies, recognising and responding to any child or adult safeguarding concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain meticulous, accurate, up-to-date, and confidential clinical records in strict line with legal, GDPR, and professional requirements.
• Produce comprehensive, professional reports summarising clinical findings and recommendations for internal use and for external agencies as needed.
• Liaise effectively with GPs, NHS services, and other external professionals to ensure continuous care pathways and clear, open communication.
• Actively contribute to quality assurance activities, clinical governance, and inspection frameworks to ensure compliance with standards set by regulatory bodies, including Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS).
• Participate fully in regular clinical supervision with an experienced senior clinician and engage in ongoing personal training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain specialist expertise.

Person Specification:Qualifications and Experience:Essential

• To be considered for this role, you must hold a valid professional registration as a medical practitioner with the General Medical Council (GMC). Alternatively, you may be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Prescribing Advanced Nurse Practitioner or as an independent prescriber with specialised expertise in ADHD titration, provided you are also registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• A higher professional qualification relevant to the role (e.g., membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or a relevant advanced clinical practice qualification).
• Extensive post-qualification experience in a relevant clinical mental health setting (e.g., CAMHS, adult mental health).
• Proven specialist experience in prescribing and medication management for clients with mental health conditions, including complex ADHD Titration workflows.
• In-depth, working knowledge of mental health legislation, best practice frameworks, and ethical guidelines specific to Scotland.

• Experience working successfully within a private healthcare practice or private multidisciplinary clinic setting.
