Job Title: Nursing Associate (Equivalent to NHS Band 4)

Contract: This is a fixed term contract for 12 months

About the project & role

This is a new role that is part of a project called Enhanced Roles in Social Care, which explores new models of integrated working between health and care.

The project is looking at how health roles (traditionally based in the NHS) can be embedded in the care sector to enhance quality, communication, and outcomes for people receiving care. It offers a unique opportunity to be part of shaping a new way of working at the intersection of a care provider in Redbridge and the NHS.

As well as undertaking specific Nursing Associate activities with Bio Luminuex, the postholder will deliver nursing interventions delegated to them by the District Nursing Team, strengthening collaborative working between NELFT and Bio Luminuex. The role is intended to both increase the scope of the care provider and the capacity of local community health services.

The role will be piloted for 12 months and will evolve in line with our learning during this period. The Nursing Associate will be a key contributor to the pilot evaluation by regularly reviewing how things are going and suggesting/implementing changes where agreed.

Role Overview

The majority (60-70%) of the time will be dedicated to delivering nursing interventions delegated by the local District Nursing team at NELFT, who will also provide your clinical supervision. Delegated nursing interventions may be to existing care provider clients, but are more likely to be other service users (District Nursing patients).

In the remaining time (20-30%) you will be supporting the existing care provider workforce, bringing clinical and nursing expertise to the team. This role is for the purposes of covering general care shifts or acting as emergency cover in the case of staff sickness.

Main duties and responsibilities

• General duties
• Provide safe, person-centred care at a high standard ensuring that health needs of clients are met safely and effectively
• Contribute to preparation of care plans
• Clinical record keeping in line with professional, organisational and regulatory standards
• Act in line with Bio Luminuex and NELFT’s policies, procedures and values
• Delegated nursing interventions
• Carry out delegated clinical tasks to a high standard, under the direction of a registered nurse. These may include:
• wound care
• dressing changes
• pressure ulcer prevention
• diabetes monitoring and insulin administration
• vital signs monitoring
• Medicine administration
• continence care
• catheter care
• Bowel care
• and more
• Monitoring and escalation of any concerns to District Nursing
• Care provider support
• Carry out tasks supporting prevention and quality of care in line with the scope of practice of a Nursing Associate. Precise activities will be agreed with the postholder.

Person Specification

Criteria

Essential (E)
Current NMC registration as a Nursing Associate
Ability to deliver high quality nursing interventions in line with the NA role
Experience recording accurate clinical records
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage own workload
Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances such as the evolution of this role as pilot develops
Understands confidentiality, professional boundaries and information sharing
Recognises safeguarding concerns and knows when/how to escalate

Desirable (D)

Post registration experience of delivering a wide range of clinical and other interventions as relevant to the NA scope of practice
Experience of working as part of multi disciplinary teams
Understanding of quality improvement or service development principles
Experience of delivering staff training, support and supervision within the scope of practice of a Nursing Associate
UK driving licence and access to vehicle

Pay: £33,262.00-£36,027.00 per year
