About Us
Home Focus Opticians is an independent provider of domiciliary eye care, delivering high-quality eye examinations, spectacle dispensing and aftercare directly to patients in their own homes, care homes, retirement living communities and other community settings.
Our mission is to make professional eye care accessible to those who are unable to attend a high street optician due to physical or mental health conditions. As a growing independent business, we're looking for a proactive Business Development Consultant to help expand our services and build lasting relationships across the health and social care sectors.
The Opportunity
This is a self-employed, part-time consultancy opportunity, initially requiring approximately 30 hours per week.
As Home Focus Opticians continues to grow, we anticipate increasing the volume of consultancy work, with the opportunity for this role to develop into a more substantial long-term consultancy arrangement.
You'll have the flexibility to manage your own diary, organise your workload and work independently while achieving agreed business development objectives.
This is a varied role that combines proactive telephone-based business development with face-to-face relationship building. You'll identify new opportunities, introduce our services to prospective clients, arrange meetings and carry out follow-up visits to build long-term partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
· Build and maintain relationships with care homes, nursing homes, residential homes, sheltered housing schemes and retirement living providers.
· Develop relationships with healthcare professionals including GPs, hospital discharge teams, stroke units, rehabilitation services, community nursing teams,
occupational therapists, social workers and other referral partners.
· Proactively generate new business through outbound cold calling, emails, networking and other business development activities.
· Arrange meetings, presentations and service introductions with prospective clients and key decision-makers.
· Conduct face-to-face follow-up visits to nurture relationships and convert opportunities into long-term partnerships.
· Identify new opportunities for both NHS and private domiciliary eye care services.
· Follow up enquiries and maintain an organised pipeline of prospective clients.
· Represent Home Focus Opticians at networking events, exhibitions and community events.
· Work closely with the Directors to develop local marketing initiatives and business development strategies.
· Maintain accurate records of business development activity and client interactions.
· Act as a professional ambassador for Home Focus Opticians at all times.
Person Specification
Essential
· Previous experience in business development, sales or relationship management.
· Confident making outbound cold calls and developing new business opportunities.
· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
· Confidence engaging with senior decision-makers.
· Self-motivated, organised and able to work independently.
· Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
· Willingness to travel regularly for client meetings and follow-up visits.
Desirable
· Experience within optical, healthcare or social care.
· Previous experience working with care homes, retirement living providers or community healthcare services.
· Existing relationships within the healthcare or care sector.
· Experience supporting a growing business.
· Background as a Dispensing Optician, Optical Practice Manager, Optical Sales Representative, Care Home Manager or similar.
Consultancy Arrangement
· Self-employed contractor (this is not an employed position).
· Approximately 30 hours per week initially, with the opportunity for consultancy hours to increase as the business grows.
· Flexible working with autonomy to manage your own diary and schedule.
· Consultant responsible for their own tax and National Insurance obligations.
· Consultants may undertake work for other clients, provided there is no conflict of interest with Home Focus Opticians.
Fees & Benefits
· Competitive hourly consultancy rate, depending on experience.
· Business mileage reimbursed.
· Performance-based commission for successfully securing new business.
· Opportunity to build a long-term consultancy relationship with a growing independent healthcare business.
Why Join Home Focus Opticians?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing independent healthcare business and play a key role in its expansion. You'll help improve access to eye care for vulnerable people while building meaningful relationships across the healthcare and care sectors.
As one of our early consultants, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the growth of the business while developing a long-term role with increasing responsibility and earning potential.
