Full job description

Care Assistant required to work for Craigneil residential home

We require a responsible person to work evening and night shifts. The hours of the evenings are 5.30-10.30 shift, or 5-10pm. Hours will be 15-20 hours a week.every other weekend, night shifts will be 10pm-8am or 10.30pm - 7.30am. staff may be asked to do occassional 8-8 for holiday cover.

There may also be occasional day shift holiday cover available with the hours of 8-5.

it is important that the right candidate helps to deliver quality care to all residents following personal centred care plans. Staff will require to receive/ complete training. Medication training provided. Additional pay will be given once all training and medication training and supervision has been completed. Candidates will also be expected to complete cleaning throughout the care home, following policies, and keeping up to date with infection control policy

Candidates must

· To work in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures.

· To work to the organisations statement of values and promote the core values of care which are fundamental to the Philosophy of Craigneil.

· To work in accordance with the organisations safeguarding policy, to act upon safeguarding concerns. To safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults. To report any safeguarding concerns to the homes manager or Safeguarding Lead/Champion. Any Safeguarding concerns should be reported to Lancashire County Council Safeguarding Adults, for them to decide whether to commence a formal safeguarding investigation.

· To assist in preparing residents for bed, and getting up in a morning as required.

· To help residents with problems of mobility and other physical disabilities (e.g. incontinence), helping with the use of disability aids and caring for the same, where appropriate.

· To receive and act upon instructions from Senior Staff regarding specific tasks to be carried out during the night.

· To carry out regular checks on residents throughout the night, according to intervals set by Senior Care Staff and with due regard to residents' individual wishes.

· To answer promptly all alarm calls, assessing each situation and dealing with any resident who is seeking help. In cases of emergency, to summon Senior Staff and if necessary to call the emergency services.

· To assist residents who need help or reassurance, providing light drinks or refreshments where required.

· To carry out regular checks on the building, with particular reference to fire prevention and external security (all windows and external doors secured etc).

· To launder and iron garments and linen, mending / darning where practical taking particular care with regard to what colored bags to use and the temperatures required for individual clothing.

· To awaken residents in the morning at their requested times, as appropriate. To assist residents to rise, wash and dress, and proceed to the dining room.

· To help maintain a safe and healthy environment in the Home with due regard to appropriate Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations. To record and report all accidents.

· To follow the cleaning schedules identified for care staff for particular shift

· To read and write reports, and to participate in staff and residents' meetings as appropriate.

Overtime and holiday cover will be available.
