Full job description

Plumbing & Heating Improver / Developing Engineer
Employed or Subcontractor Basis

Yorkshire Heating & Renewables is looking for the right person to join our team.

We’re an established, local, family-run plumbing and heating business with a strong reputation for being friendly, approachable, reliable and doing a proper job.

We’re growing and looking for someone who already has a good practical grounding in plumbing and heating, but still wants to learn, develop and build confidence.

You may already be qualified but feel you need more experience, or you may have several years of practical plumbing experience without holding every qualification yet.

You don’t need to be the finished article.

The role

This role would suit someone who is useful on site, understands the basics and wants the opportunity to develop into a stronger, more rounded plumbing and heating engineer.

  • General plumbing and heating maintenance
  • Natural gas, LPG and oil heating systems
  • Boiler installations, servicing and repairs
  • Cylinders and hot water systems
  • Underfloor heating
  • Heating system design
  • Renovations and new builds
  • First and second fix
  • Renewable heating, mainly heat pumps
  • Assisting on larger projects and installations

Some days will be more technical than others. Other days will involve drilling, clipping, carrying, cleaning up and simply doing the jobs that need doing.

Nobody here is above getting stuck in.

What matters to us

Technical ability is important, but so is the kind of person you are.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable and can be counted on
  • Has a good attitude towards work
  • Takes pride in what they do
  • Uses their initiative
  • Looks for solutions rather than problems
  • Is honest and takes responsibility
  • Treats customers and their homes properly
  • Works tidily and gets on well with the rest of the team
  • Wants to learn, improve and build confidence
  • Is happy to ask questions when unsure rather than guess

We want people to enjoy coming to work.

We aim to provide a supportive, respectful working environment without unnecessary pressure, while still recognising that there are times when jobs need pushing on and everyone has to pull together.

Ideally you’ll have

  • Previous practical plumbing and heating experience
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3, or relevant hands-on experience
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Your own basic hand tools
  • Good communication skills

Experience with gas, LPG, oil, unvented systems, heating design or renewables would be useful, but isn’t essential.

What matters more is that you’ve already got a reasonable practical base and genuinely want to improve.

What we can offer

  • Employed or subcontractor basis
  • Full-time or part-time availability considered
  • Pay/rate agreed based on experience, qualifications and current ability
  • Overtime available
  • Company van available where required
  • Power tools and specialist equipment available
  • Job-management technology provided
  • Varied work across maintenance and larger projects
  • Opportunity to gain experience across gas, LPG, oil, heating design and heat pumps
  • Support to develop your skills and confidence
  • Long-term opportunity with an established local family business

Location

Most of our work is based to the east of Hull, mainly across East Hull and the villages of Holderness, so candidates must be willing to travel within the area as required.

We’re taking our time with this because we want the right person, not just the first person available.

How to apply

If you’re interested, send us a brief introduction covering where you’re based, your current experience, qualifications, whether you hold a full UK driving licence, your availability and what sort of work you’re doing at the moment.

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
