We are looking for an experienced, reliable and fully qualified Domestic Gas Service & Breakdown Engineer to join our team on a self-employed subcontract basis.

This is an ideal opportunity for an established heating engineer looking for additional work with flexible working days to fit around existing commitments.

The successful candidate must have strong experience working with Worcester Bosch boilers, alongside a proven background in domestic boiler servicing, fault finding and breakdown repairs.

We work on a wide variety of domestic heating systems, so a good all-round knowledge of different boiler types, heating systems and controls is essential. We are particularly looking for an engineer who enjoys fault finding, has a logical approach to diagnostics and is confident investigating and resolving a range of heating issues.

Work will typically be available 1–3 days per week, depending on demand and availability.

We expect the engineer to complete approximately 6–10 appointments per day, depending on the schedule and complexity of the work. Daily appointments will include a mixture of routine boiler servicing, fault-finding visits and breakdown call-outs.

The ability to work independently, adapt to different heating systems and manage time efficiently is essential.

  • Diagnose faults and undertake domestic heating breakdown repairs.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Worcester Bosch boilers.
  • Work confidently across a wide variety of domestic boilers and central heating systems.
  • Demonstrate a good all-round understanding of heating controls, programmers, thermostats, wiring controls and system operation.
  • Investigate and resolve faults involving underfloor heating, central heating controls and associated equipment.
  • Approach fault finding methodically, with a genuine interest in understanding and resolving technical problems.
  • Identify faults, explain findings clearly and recommend appropriate remedial work.
  • Complete all work in accordance with current gas safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate service records, job sheets and relevant certification.
  • Provide a professional, friendly and reliable service to customers.

Essential Requirements

  • Fully qualified and currently Gas Safe Registered, with the appropriate qualifications for the work undertaken.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in domestic boiler servicing and breakdown diagnostics.
  • Good working knowledge of Worcester Bosch boilers.
  • Strong all-round knowledge of domestic heating systems and heating controls.
  • Experience with underfloor heating systems and associated controls.
  • Confident fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with a genuine interest in investigating and resolving heating faults.
  • Ability to work across different systems, identify problems logically and work independently.
  • Professional, reliable and customer-focused approach.
  • Own van, tools and suitable testing equipment.
  • Appropriate insurance for the work undertaken.

Working Arrangements

  • Employment status: Self-employed subcontractor.
  • Workload: Typically 1–3 days per week, subject to demand.
  • Daily workload: Approximately 6–10 appointments, including boiler services, fault-finding visits and breakdown call-outs.
  • Payment: Agreed day rate or pricing structure.
