Primary site: Butts Close, Thornton-Cleveleys

Additional sites: Occasional cover required at Bispham, Thornton & Fleetwood

Standard hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Shift flexibility: Early shift (6:00am–2:00pm) and late shift (2:00pm–10:00pm) required as needed

Contract: Permanent, full-time

ABOUT VMS SOLUTIONS

VMS Solutions Ltd. is a fast-growing contract manufacturer of food supplements operating across tablet, capsule, powder, and liquid formats. With four production sites across the Fylde Coast, we supply some of the UK’s leading health and wellness brands. As our Service Engineer, you will be the first line of defence keeping our production lines running — diagnosing faults, executing preventive maintenance, and driving improvement projects that increase uptime and output quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

– Perform planned preventive and reactive maintenance across filling, encapsulation, blending, tablet pressing, and packaging equipment

– Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults to minimise production downtime

– Carry out equipment qualification activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and maintain accurate maintenance records in line with GMP requirements

– Support the installation, commissioning, and validation of new machinery across all VMS sites

– Travel to and provide engineering cover at Bispham, Thornton, and Fleetwood sites as required, using your own vehicle

– Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures and implement lasting corrective actions

– Monitor and maintain utility systems including compressed air, HVAC, and extraction equipment

– Carry out calibration of process-critical equipment and instruments, maintaining up-to-date calibration records

– Support change control processes and contribute to engineering change documentation

– Contribute to OEE improvement initiatives and assist with Lean/5S activities on the shop floor

– Assist in the development and review of maintenance SOPs, risk assessments, and method statements

– Respond to out-of-hours call-outs when required and adapt working pattern to early or late shifts as operational needs demand

– Liaise with production, quality, and external contractors to plan and co-ordinate maintenance windows with minimal disruption

– Ensure all work complies with health & safety legislation, COSHH regulations, and site SOPs at all times

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

– Time-served apprenticeship or ONC/HNC in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic engineering preferred

– Demonstrable experience in a food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or FMCG manufacturing environment

– Strong fault-finding capability across mechanical and pneumatic systems

– Solid understanding of GMP principles and associated documentation standards

– Full UK driving licence — travel between sites is a core requirement of this role

– Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and remain calm under pressure

– Good communication skills and a proactive, team-orientated attitude

– Flexibility to work early (6:00am–2:00pm) and late (2:00pm–10:00pm) shifts when operationally required

DESIRABLE SKILLS

– Hands-on experience with encapsulation, tablet press, or powder blending equipment

– Understanding of food safety standards — BRC, HACCP, or equivalent

– Knowledge of calibration procedures and metrology principles

– Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 5S practitioner experience

– Forklift truck licence (counterbalance or reach) — preferred
