About this opportunity:
We are a small town council with 5 staff, 3 site team staff maintain the cemetery, parks and recreation grounds. We are seeking an Apprentice Cemetery & Site Assistant.
Horticultural duties:
Grass cutting (including ride-on, pedestrian powered and hand- held machines)
Pruning, digging and preparation of ground
Planting and maintenance of shrub and flower beds
Hedge cutting
Edging
Watering
Cemetery specific duties:
To assist with interments at Hatfield Cemetery including the digging of graves and preparing for funerals.
To assist members of the public with day to day general enquiries
General Duties:
Sweeping and litter picking, including collection of dog waste
Emptying of Cemetery bins, and other site bins and dog bins
to assist as necessary in the installation, dismantling and maintenance of sports and other equipment
to keep tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition
Desired Skills & Qualities
Good communication skills – dealing with the public face to face
Good team member
Physically fit
Good aptitude & work ethic
Excellent time keeping/reliability
Desire Qualifications
GCSE’s, or equivalents in maths and English are desired but not essential
Driving license would be an advantage
Future Prospects
Can lead to full time Grounds Maintenance role
Training:
Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
