Gardener / Grounds Person

We are a child care organisation providing care, education, and therapy services to young people who have experienced trauma in their lives resulting in emotional and behavioural difficulties. New Reflexions Children’s Residential Service offers both short & long-term, therapeutic placements for young people aged between 10 and 18 years of age.

As an organisation we are currently expanding and experiencing an exciting period of growth and therefore require more enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Gardener / Grounds Person covering Shropshire, Staffordshire and Mid Wales.

Work Requirements:

The primary responsibility of this position is to undertake varied day-to-day gardening related maintenance and tasks. This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Mowing, trimming, tree cutting and pruning;
  • Ensuring plant health;
  • Maintenance of green spaces;
  • Installing landscapes and seasonal flower designs;
  • Cleaning and weeding;
  • Irrigation and irrigation system management;
  • Application of chemical and organic herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
  • Soil management activities;
  • Sowing, cultivation and propagation of plants, trees and shrubs;
  • Supplying plants for parks, private gardens and green spaces;
  • Designing and building gardens;
  • Cultivating fruit and vegetable plants;
  • Ensuring there are no trip hazards, and areas are clear of litter and debris;
  • Ability to safely load/unload essential materials;
  • Health and Safety aware.

Working as part of a wider maintenance team, you may also be required to support colleagues from time to time with basic household maintenance duties.

Relevant Experience

Essential

  • General gardening knowledge;
  • Working in varied environments;
  • Working within Health and Safety requirements;
  • Working as a member of a team;
  • Planning own workload to facilitate work where there are access issues.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and previous experience with plant protection products;
  • Licence to drive tractors;
  • Working in an educational, care or school environment; experience of safeguarding;
  • Oversight of Health and Safety in a working environment;
  • Previous experience working with garden machinery such as, but not limited to ride on lawn mower, electric / petrol hedge strimmer’s and chainsaw’s.

You will have a valid full UK manual driving licence as a company van will be provided for your use to carry out your duties & responsibilities.
