About HYLL Hotel

HYLL is a luxury boutique hotel set in the heart of the Cotswolds, offering guests a relaxed, contemporary country-house experience. Our beautiful historic property, gardens and grounds are an important part of what makes HYLL special.

The Role

We are looking for a practical, enthusiastic and hands-on Maintenance & Garden Assistant to join our Estates team. Reporting directly to the Estate Manager, you will help keep the hotel, its buildings, outdoor spaces and grounds maintained, safe and attractive. The role includes routine maintenance, support with larger improvement projects, garden and grounds care, and landscaping projects across the property.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has a positive can-do attitude and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.

1. Hotel Maintenance

· Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of hotel buildings, facilities and surrounding areas.

· Carry out routine repairs and general maintenance tasks as directed by the Estate Manager.

· Assist with basic plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry and other general maintenance duties, within the limits of your skills and training.

· Identify and report maintenance issues, defects and potential safety hazards.

· Assist with planned preventative maintenance and routine property inspections.

· Help ensure hotel facilities, staff areas, outdoor furniture and external spaces are clean, safe and in good working order.

· Respond promptly to maintenance requests and support the smooth day-to-day running of the hotel.

2. Projects and Improvements

· Assist the Estate Manager with hotel refurbishment, renovation and improvement projects.

· Support the preparation of work areas, movement of materials and completion of practical tasks.

· Assist with landscaping, garden improvements, outdoor developments and general property enhancement projects.

· Keep working areas tidy, organised and safe throughout projects.

· Work alongside external contractors and tradespeople when required.

· Follow instructions, project schedules and agreed standards of workmanship.

3. Garden and Grounds Maintenance

· Assist with the general maintenance and presentation of the hotel gardens and grounds.

· Undertake mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, hedge cutting and other seasonal gardening tasks.

· Maintain flower beds, borders, lawns, pathways, patios and landscaped areas.

· Assist with planting, mulching, soil preparation and seasonal planting schemes.

· Help maintain outdoor furniture, garden features, entrances and guest-facing outdoor areas.

· Support landscaping projects, including planting schemes, garden redesigns and improvements to outdoor spaces.

· Keep paths, driveways, patios and external areas tidy, presentable and free from hazards.

· Assist with the safe use, cleaning and storage of gardening tools, machinery and equipment.

4. Health, Safety and General Duties

· Follow all hotel health and safety procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.

· Use tools, machinery and equipment safely and only when appropriately trained.

· Report accidents, incidents, damage and hazards to the Estate Manager.

· Maintain secure, clean and organised maintenance and storage areas.

· Assist with seasonal tasks and other reasonable duties required to support the Estates team.

· Represent HYLL professionally and courteously when working in guest-facing areas.

Person SpecificationEssential qualities

· A practical, hands-on approach to work.

· A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.

· Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.

· Reliable, punctual and well organised.

· Physically capable of undertaking outdoor work and practical maintenance duties in varying weather conditions.

· Able to work independently, follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.

· Good awareness of health and safety.

· A flexible and helpful approach to supporting the wider hotel operation.

Desirable experience

· Previous experience in general maintenance, gardening, groundskeeping, landscaping or a similar practical role.

· Basic DIY skills, including painting, decorating and minor repairs.

· Experience using gardening tools, machinery and grounds maintenance equipment.

· An interest in horticulture, landscaping and property maintenance.

· A full UK driving licence, where required for the role.

Personal Attributes

· Takes ownership of work and sees tasks through to completion.

· Is proactive in identifying areas that need attention.

· Enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in creating attractive, well-maintained surroundings.

· Is approachable, respectful and professional around hotel guests and colleagues.

· Understands the importance of presentation and attention to detail in a luxury hotel environment.

· Is keen to contribute ideas and support the ongoing improvement of the HYLL property.

What We Offer

· Permanent, full-time position of 40 paid hours per week.

· Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, with a 30-minute unpaid break each day.

· 28 days’ annual holiday plus your birthday off every year.

· The opportunity to develop practical maintenance, gardening and landscaping skills.

· The opportunity to work on a variety of property improvement projects.

· The chance to be part of a friendly team at a distinctive luxury boutique hotel in the Cotswolds.
