Job Title: Assistant Horticultural Manager

Location: London/ Surrey

Salary: £33,000.00 - £38,000.00 (depending on experience)

We are seeking a Horticulturist with management experience to assist the development of our established gardening teams. We have a beautiful portfolio of projects, where attention to detail is key. Our gardens are located throughout Central London, Surrey and the surrounding areas and require the highest level of care.

Personal Profile:

Ideally you will have experience managing multiple teams and excellent knowledge of working in gardens that require high attention to detail. In the role you will be reporting into the Horticultural Manager, supporting and managing five teams, as well as liaising with clients and designers; so professionalism, a positive attitude and excellent organisational and communication skills are vital.

Daily, you will oversee five teams, of two gardeners, and provide a pivotal role between the operational staff and the Horticultural Manager. You will assist in the monitoring, reporting, management and development of the teams and our gardens; including developing programmes and schedules, as well as assisting with procurement of essential materials.

Developing the gardens will require an excellent knowledge of plants, creativity and a hands-on approach. Most of all, we would like you to bring a proactive, forward looking and flexible approach to this exciting and varied role.

Key Duties:

Generally this role will be supporting the Horticultural Manager with the development of Landscape Associates’ garden maintenance and soft landscaping services including:

● Project management, monitoring and working within budgets

  • Communicating with your manager regarding additional works and providing feedback on gardens • Creation, implementation and development of maintenance programmes and schedules • Management and supporting of garden maintenance and soft landscaping teams
  • Liaising with clients, designers and suppliers
  • Monitoring of and reporting on the quality, health and development of gardens
  • Implementing company Health and Safety documentation and reporting processes
  • Plant procurement
  • Deputising for team leaders and Horticultural Manager

This role also entails, supporting/ working with team leaders, gardeners and soft landscape teams with the following duties:

  • Lawn care
  • Plant feeding, staking and weeding of herbaceous borders
  • Hedge cutting – by hand and machine
  • General watering and management of irrigation systems
  • Spraying, i.e. pest control, feeding and stone cleaning
  • Management of garden water features

Position requirements

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification in gardening or horticulture i.e. RHS or City and Guilds, level two minimum • Minimum five years’ experience at team leader level, or equivalent
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting
  • Excellent plant knowledge
  • Experience with pedestrian mowers, scarifiers, hedge trimmers and power washers • Experience with irrigation systems
  • A full driving licence
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Proficient IT skills, including email, diary/ calendar management, using of Microsoft suite i.e. Word, Excel

Desired:

  • PA1/PA6 Spraying certificates
  • A valid Emergency first aid at work certificate
  • Good awareness of Health and Safety
  • Design experience/interest
  • Experience using biological pest and disease control

● Working Hours: Monday to Friday 7am – 4pm
