Grounds Maintenance Operative

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative at NRS Harwell, Oxfordshire.
Contract type: Permanent
Hours of work: 37 hours per week
Shift pattern: 9 day fortnight (Monday to Thursday 07.45 until 17.00 and every other Friday 07.45 until 12.15)

Join our team

Join our inclusive Amey Facilities Management and Soft Services team, supporting the NRS Harwell site.
NRS (Nuclear Restoration Services) sites are highly regulated nuclear facilities across the UK, supporting the safe decommissioning and long-term management of the nation's former nuclear power stations and associated assets. Amey provides a range of facilities management, maintenance and project delivery services that help ensure these sites remain safe, compliant and operational.
In this practical, varied role, you will help maintain safe, clean and professional external spaces for customers, site users and visitors. Alongside grounds maintenance, you may support wider site operations by operating a forklift truck when appropriately qualified, authorised and required.
Your work will make an important contribution to the safe and efficient operation of the site throughout the year, including during seasonal and adverse weather conditions.

What you will do

  • Deliver high-quality grounds maintenance, including grass and hedge cutting, border maintenance, leaf clearance, litter picking and general upkeep.
  • Maintain safe, clean and professional external areas in accordance with the agreed work schedule.
  • Operate vehicles, grounds maintenance machinery and equipment safely, following site and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Support site logistics and material movements by operating a forklift truck when trained and authorised.
  • Carry out gritting and other seasonal duties during adverse weather conditions.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests, report site issues and help find practical solutions to queries or concerns.

What you will bring

Essential
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Grounds maintenance experience.
  • Experience driving ride on mowers and/or tractors
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • A flexible, proactive approach and confidence using mobile technology to record and manage work activities.

Desirable
  • A recognised forklift qualification, such as NPORS, RTITB or an equivalent accreditation, with experience operating a forklift truck in a commercial environment.
  • PA1 and PA6 spraying qualifications.
  • A chainsaw licence.
  • Training or practical experience using ride-on mowers, tractors, strimmers and brush cutters.
  • Knowledge of Planned Preventative Maintenance activities.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.
If you have most but not all of these skills and experiences, we encourage you to apply. We may be able to offer development or training to support your growth.

Security clearance

Because this role supports operations at NRS Harwell, the successful candidate must be willing to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance, commonly known as BPSS.
