Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Groundskeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of our grounds, ensuring that all outdoor areas are well-kept and inviting. This role requires a combination of physical stamina, mechanical knowledge, and a passion for landscaping. The Groundskeeper will work with various hand and power tools to perform tasks essential for landscape maintenance and improvement.

As a Groundskeeping Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment is provided for our patients, visitors and staff in a busy residential hospital with an extended care facility and lodge cottages for visitors all within the grounds of Castle Craig.

You will be an important part of the team that ensures patients in our care feel comfortable in their surroundings.

Main Responsibilities

  • Grass cutting (ride on, pedestrian, and brush cutter/strimmer), planting and flower bed arrangement, leaf collection, fence repairing, collection and chipping of branches, tree maintenance and chopping logs etc.
  • Hedge Trimming
  • Driveway and verge clearance of snow, leaves etc. and gritting when necessary.
  • External pipe maintenance and cleaning.
  • Rubbish collection.
  • Recycling.
  • Animal Management (feeding).
  • Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance with Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection and COSHH
  • Undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques.
  • Transportation of goods between sites.
  • Materials and equipment uplift and delivery.
  • Checking Water Tanks
  • Maintenance of road and car parks on Estate
  • Sanitising bins and cleaning bin area
  • Ensuring Salt/Grit bins are full (Seasonal)
  • Hanging basket arrangement and maintenance (Seasonal)
  • Weed management.
  • Basic Pest control

Working Hours:

  • 24 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday (3 days)
  • 07h00 – 15h00

Remuneration:

  • £12.21 per hour

Requirements:

  • A caring nature and positive attitude, showing a desire to deliver the best possible service to the patients in our care.
  • Initiative in identifying and reporting problems.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Time Management skills and ability to complete all workload in required timeframes.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Driving licence and own transport / lift share due to rural location.
  • A flexible approach – you will be required to work across different buildings on site.
  • Ride on Mowers (LANTRA or equivalent)
  • Brushcutters (LANTRA or equivalent)
  • Hedge Trimmer
  • Tractor Driving and Attachments
  • Basic Chainsaw
  • Weed Control (PA1, PA6)
  • Proven experience working with groundskeeping hand tools and equipment relevant to gardening and landscaping tasks.
  • Previous experience as a groundskeeper
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while performing physical tasks.
