MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
You will be required to work with four other groundstaff (including the Grounds Manager) in all areas maintained by the Town Council, as directed by the Grounds Manager. The following is a list of duties likely to be asked of you, although this is not a comprehensive list:
MAIN DUTIES:
1. To undertake routine grounds maintenance work on playing fields (including school playing fields maintained under contract), open spaces, allotments, the Cemetery and closed churchyard. Maintenance work includes grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning, emptying rubbish and dog waste bins, and litter picking.
2. To carry out the establishment, marking out and setting up of playing surfaces and pitches on the Council’s land and any areas maintained under contract.
3. To effect the safe use and operation of equipment and machinery used in grounds maintenance, with regard for Health and Safety.
4. To carry out routine maintenance and keep in good condition all tools and machinery, ensuring that they are cleaned and locked away after use and that operator’s maintenance work is carried out in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
5. To drive Council vehicles and use equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations or other work on behalf of the Council.
6. To take corrective action on mechanical defects or breakdown of equipment and, in accordance with Council practices, inform the Grounds Foreman of any such incidents to enable repairs to be carried out by approved machinery repairers.
7. To ensure the appearance of land owned and/or managed by the Town Council is kept to a high standard.
8. To carry out regular safety checks of play areas and equipment, and accurately record the outcome of those inspections, such records to identify any risks.
9. To carry out repairs, maintenance and decorations to premises, buildings or other property under the control of the Council.
10. When directed by the Grounds Manager to provide cover for all or any of the duties carried out by the other grounds staff.
11. To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time commensurate with the level of the post.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. To hold a valid driving licence for the relevant categories of vehicles used by the Council.
2. To hold an appropriate First Aid at Work Certificate or be prepared to work towards obtaining the appropriate Certificate.
3. To undertake such duties as may from time to time be determined and agreed by Council and are commensurate with the nature and level of the post.
4. To be able to use a trailer or undertake such training as required for use of a trailer.
5. To hold or be prepared to work toward any relevant certificate required for the safe operation of the Town Council’s maintenance which may include: knapsack and tractor spraying, and safe use of machinery.
6. To attend such training courses and/or events as the Council may reasonably require in connection with the duties of the post
