Weekend Gardener / Groundsman
Waddow Activity Centre – Clitheroe, Lancashire
About Us
Waddow Activity Centre is a beautiful and historic Grade II Listed estate set within the stunning Ribble Valley countryside near Clitheroe. With over 178 acres of grounds, woodland, gardens and outdoor spaces, Waddow provides unforgettable experiences for schools, youth groups, families and the local community.
Waddow Activity Centre is operated by WAC Clitheroe Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of GT Foundation, a UK registered charity (Charity Number 1063741). Following exciting new ownership, we are investing in the future of the estate and looking for passionate people to help maintain and enhance this truly special setting for future generations.
The Role
We are looking for a passionate, hands-on Weekend Gardener / Groundsman who takes real pride in their work and genuinely enjoys caring for outdoor spaces. This is more than just a gardening role — we want someone who notices the little things, takes initiative, and helps keep the estate looking its very best at all times.
You will help maintain the gardens, grounds and outdoor areas across the Waddow estate, ensuring they remain safe, welcoming and beautifully presented for our guests and visitors.

- Planting seasonal flowers, shrubs and greenery
- Trimming hedges, shrubs and bushes
- Grass cutting and general grounds maintenance
- Weeding, pruning and keeping outdoor areas tidy
- Helping maintain pathways, outdoor furniture and public areas
- Identifying maintenance or safety issues proactively and reporting solutions before problems escalate
- Supporting the wider site team in maintaining the appearance and presentation of the estate
- Taking pride in preserving the beauty and heritage of the grounds
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine passion for gardening and outdoor work
- Someone proactive who “sees what needs doing” without being asked
- Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- Reliable, hardworking and self-motivated
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in gardening, grounds maintenance or estate care is preferred but not essential for the right person with the right attitude
- An appreciation for working within a historic estate environment
Hours & Pay
- £13.46 per hour
- Weekend-based role
- Flexible opportunities available for either:
- 24 hours per week, or
- 32 hours per week
