Role: Grounds Maintenance (Unskilled)
Location: Derby
Hours: Full Time (including seasonal/winter duties)
Pay: £13.26 per hour
Start Date: Immediate Starts Available

An excellent opportunity has arisen for Grounds Maintenance staff to join Derby City Council’s Grounds Maintenance team, delivering high‑quality services across parks, highways, housing estates and public spaces. This Grounds Maintenance position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in maintaining green spaces and want to support the local community.

The Role:

  • Carrying out general grounds maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming and upkeep of shrub beds and floral displays
  • Operating tools, machinery and vehicles (mowers, vans, horticultural equipment)
  • Maintaining parks, highways, housing estates and public/private spaces
  • Completing winter maintenance duties including gritting
  • Undertaking basic construction and labouring tasks (paving prep, fencing, ground clearance)
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely in line with health & safety regulations
  • Completing job sheets, vehicle checks and required paperwork
  • Supporting apprentices, temporary staff and community groups where required

The Requirements:

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to carry out manual work and use gardening tools/equipment
  • Understanding of health and safety practices (training provided)
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable)
  • Reliable, hardworking and able to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to undertake training and develop skills
