Self-Employed Gardener / Grounds Maintenance Operative

Marcus Bergin Gardening Ltd is looking for an experienced or enthusiastic gardener to join our growing team on a self-employed/subcontractor basis.

We provide professional garden and grounds maintenance across Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas, working in both private gardens and on larger commercial and residential developments.

This is initially a part-time position, typically around 8–24 hours per week, depending on workload. There is good potential for the amount of work available to increase as the business continues to grow.

We would ideally like someone with previous professional gardening or grounds-maintenance experience. However, we are also interested in someone with good practical ability, a genuine interest in horticulture and, most importantly, the right attitude and willingness to learn.

The work will include:

  • Regular garden and grounds maintenance
  • Lawn mowing and lawn care
  • Hedge and shrub cutting
  • Pruning
  • Border maintenance and weeding
  • Planting and seasonal garden work
  • Leaf clearance and general grounds work
  • Using professional gardening machinery and equipment
  • Working on both domestic gardens and larger commercial sites

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable and punctual
  • Takes pride in producing a high standard of work
  • Is physically capable and comfortable working outdoors throughout the year
  • Can work well as part of a team
  • Can eventually work independently when required
  • Has gardening or grounds-maintenance experience, or is genuinely willing to learn
  • Is comfortable using garden machinery or willing to be trained
  • Ideally holds a full UK driving licence

Experience with ride-on mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers and other professional grounds-maintenance equipment would be particularly useful.

Pay: £17–£20 per hour, depending on experience.

This is a self-employed/subcontractor opportunity, so applicants will be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance arrangements.

For the right person, there is an opportunity to develop the role and take on more regular work as Marcus Bergin Gardening Ltd continues to expand its domestic and commercial grounds-maintenance contracts.
