F.B. & Sons Lawns & Landscapes Limited
Based in Rubery | Working Across the West Midlands

Permanent Employed Position | Full Time | 40 Hours per Week | £13.50–£15.00 per hour | Workplace Pension | Ongoing Training | Career Progression

Help Build the Future of Our Gardening Division

This isn't just another gardening job.

At F.B. & Sons, we're investing in the future of our business by creating and growing a dedicated Gardening & Grounds Maintenance division, and we're looking for the right person to help lead that journey.

We're looking for an experienced horticultural professional who wants more than simply turning up, completing a day's work and going home. We're looking for someone who wants to take ownership, lead a team and play a genuine role in shaping the future of an expanding department.

This is a fully employed position — not self-employed.

About F.B. & Sons

F.B. & Sons is an RHS award-winning, independent family-run landscaping and garden design business based in Rubery.

We design, build and maintain exceptional outdoor spaces across the West Midlands, alongside selected projects nationwide. Our reputation has been built on quality craftsmanship, professionalism and outstanding customer service.

We're a values-driven business that believes our people are our greatest asset. We invest in training, support professional development and provide opportunities for people to build rewarding, long-term careers.

About Our Culture

We expect high standards, tidy sites, respectful client interaction and strong teamwork.

We work hard, support one another and take genuine pride in the quality of our work. We trust our people, encourage new ideas and believe everyone should have the opportunity to grow within the business.

This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys horticulture, takes pride in producing outstanding work and wants to help build something meaningful rather than simply maintain it.

The Role

Initially, you'll lead a dedicated two-person Gardening & Grounds Maintenance Team delivering a wide variety of services including:

  • Domestic garden maintenance
  • Commercial grounds maintenance
  • Lawn care and seasonal treatments
  • Hedge cutting and pruning
  • Planting and border maintenance
  • Weed management
  • Small landscaping projects
  • Fence and gate installation
  • Minor garden improvements and repairs

You'll be trusted to organise daily workloads, mentor your team member, maintain exceptionally high standards and represent F.B. & Sons professionally on every site.

As both you and the business develop, you'll take increasing responsibility for:

  • Planning and scheduling work
  • Producing site reports and client updates
  • Managing customer relationships
  • Preparing quotations for maintenance and small works
  • Identifying opportunities for additional work
  • Helping develop systems, processes and standards
  • Supporting the continued growth of the Gardening & Grounds Maintenance division

This is a role designed to grow. You'll have genuine influence over how the department develops, the services it offers and the way it operates. We don't expect you to know everything on day one, but we are looking for someone with the ambition, professionalism and leadership potential to grow into a key management role as the business expands.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum two years' professional horticultural or gardening experience
  • Solid experience in grounds maintenance
  • Strong plant knowledge and seasonal understanding
  • Competent using professional horticultural machinery and equipment
  • Experience installing fencing and gates
  • Previous experience leading or supervising another team member
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Professional, client-focused attitude
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Reliable, proactive and motivated

Desirable

  • RHS, City & Guilds or equivalent horticultural qualification
  • PA1 and PA6 certification
  • Experience maintaining high-end domestic gardens
  • Additional landscaping experience
  • Trailer licence
  • Emergency First Aid qualification

You don't need decades of experience, but you do need competence, leadership ability, a willingness to learn and genuine pride in your work.

What We Offer

  • Permanent employed position
  • Full-time 40-hour contract (Monday to Friday)
  • £13.50–£15.00 per hour depending on experience
  • Workplace pension
  • Dedicated company van, with the opportunity to take the vehicle home following successful completion of probation (subject to insurance approval)
  • High-quality tools, PPE and uniform provided
  • Paid accommodation and meals when working away
  • Ongoing professional training and development
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression
  • The opportunity to help build and lead a growing department
  • A supportive management team that values your ideas and contribution
  • The chance to build a long-term career with an ambitious, award-winning business

Start Date: Late July or Early August (flexible for the right candidate)

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, typically 8:00am–4:30pm, with occasional overtime when required.
