Volunteer Gardening Assistant
Job details
Full job description
Annual salary: Volunteering Role (No Salary)
Do you love the outdoors?
Our hospice gardens are a place of joy and escape - where children can play pirates aboard our Seaside Garden boat, whirl around in the play park, or explore the sights and scents of our colourful sensory garden.
As a Volunteer Gardening Assistant, you’ll help keep these special spaces looking their best. You’ll be supporting our Gardener to make sure every path, flowerbed and lawn is a welcoming space for our babies, children, young people and families to enjoy.
You don’t need to be a gardening expert - just a love of the outdoors, a willingness to learn, and a desire to make a difference.
What's Involved?
- Helping with hedge and grass cutting
- Sweeping and clearing leaves, twigs, and debris
- Weeding and caring for plants
- Getting hands-on with seasonal planting
- Painting fences, benches, or decking areas
What's In It For You
- A chance to see the difference your hard work makes throughout the seasons
- Experience in grounds maintenance and horticulture
- Be part of the team behind our award-winning Chorley Flower Show creations
- The opportunity to meet new people and join a warm, friendly volunteer team
- Invitations to support our volunteer events
- Free lunch when you’re on site
You'll love this role if you:
You’re friendly, hands-on, and don’t mind getting a bit muddy! You enjoy being outdoors in all weathers, working as part of a team, and taking pride in keeping our gardens looking beautiful.
We ask for a regular commitment, in return, you’ll be part of something truly rewarding - helping to bring colour and happiness to our hospice grounds.
When can I volunteer:
We have morning and afternoon roles available on either a Monday, Tuesday or a Friday, so there should be an opportunity to find a time and day that works for you.
A few things to know
Volunteers for this role must be 16 or over and living in the UK. All volunteers wear a Derian House uniform, which we provide free of charge.
As part of our recruitment process, we ask applicants to confidentiality disclose any unspent criminal convictions before a DBS check is completed.
And just so it's clear, this is an unpaid volunteer role based at the hospice.
Ready to make a difference? We'd love to welcome you to the Derian House volunteer family!
