Site Supervisor – Highways

Location: West Kent - Tunbridge Wells
Contract Duration: Immediate start - July 2026 – March 2027

We are seeking an experienced Site Supervisor to oversee delivery of a large highway improvement scheme in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. This is a non working supervisory role managing day-to-day site operations across a live highways environment, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to programme.

The successful candidate will have strong highways and civils experience, with the ability to coordinate multiple gangs and subcontractors while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and quality compliance.

Scope of Works

The project includes

  • Footway and carriageway construction
  • Kerbing and paving works
  • Highway drainage installation (excavations up to 2m deep)
  • Road surfacing works
  • Installation of concrete sectional retaining wall systems
  • Street lighting installation
  • Traffic signage and street furniture installation

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising civils gangs and subcontractors on site
  • Coordinating daily activities to ensure works are delivered safely and to programme
  • Producing and updating short-term programmes and lookaheads
  • Writing and reviewing RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
  • Ensuring compliance with company and statutory Health & Safety standards
  • Managing permit-to-dig processes and temporary works interfaces
  • Identifying and managing underground services and utility constraints
  • Conducting site briefings, toolbox talks, and daily inspections
  • Liaising with engineers, project managers, local authorities, and stakeholders
  • Monitoring quality, productivity, and progress reporting
  • Supporting delivery within budget and programme constraints

Requirements

  • Proven experience supervising highways or civil engineering projects
  • Previous Section 278 experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of highway construction methods and sequencing
  • Experience working around live services and utility coordination
  • Ability to produce RAMS and permit documentation
  • Good knowledge of H&S legislation and CDM requirements
  • Competent in reading drawings, specifications, and programmes
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Essential Qualifications

  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • CSCS Card
  • NRSWA Supervisor
  • First Aid at Work (preferred but can be provided)
