Encompassing Civil Engineering, Building, Surfacing, Drainage and Small Works capabilities we are ideally placed to apply our extensive experience to meet the challenges of demanding markets and provide integrated and innovative solutions to our clients.

We are looking for experienced Highways Foremen to join our Surfacing and Civil Engineering team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of road, footway, car park, public realm and general civil engineering works to a high standard of safety, quality and productivity.

Part of our Southern England division, the locations are across various sites (Hampshire, Wiltshire, West Sussex, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Essex, Hertfordshire)

A competitive hourly rate will be available dependent on skills and experience.

Job Purpose

To supervise and coordinate site operations on civil engineering projects, ensuring that work is delivered safely, to specification, on time, and within budget. Responsible for managing operatives and subcontractors, maintaining quality standards, and supporting site management with project delivery. Acts as the key point of contact between the workforce and the Site Manager.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Organise and co-ordinate the allocation of labour, plant and materials and to ensure that site work is carried out in accordance with the appropriate quality, safety and environmental standards.
  • Ensure that the site workforce is competent and maintain the necessary qualifications to meet the company standards and client needs.
  • To provide Trades Foremen and Gangers precise working instructions relating to their responsibilities for correct working methods.
  • Control and co-ordinate the work of all personnel on site, including sub-contractors and other contractors, to address any conflict regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Monitoring progress and helping to ensure that site works are delivered in line with the programme of works
  • Conduct daily site briefings, toolbox talks and communicating safety and environmental updates to the site workforce.
  • Ensuring that timesheets are completed accurately and submitted for all Luddon Construction employees on site.
  • Provide technical advice to site management and workforce in relation to all site activities including solutions to problems which may arise during the delivery of the work

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety and wellbeing within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements).
  • Monitor use of PPE and equipment.
  • Carry out site safety checks and inspections.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately

Person Specification

Qualifications

CSCS card (Supervisory level)

SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) or equivalent

First Aid at Work

Experience

Significant experience in civil engineering works as a Ganger/Foreman

Proven supervisory experience managing teams of operatives and subcontractors

Exposure to drainage, utilities, roadworks, or general infrastructure projects

Knowledge/Skills

Strong understanding of civil engineering construction processes

Knowledge of H&S regulations and site procedures

Effective leadership and communication skills

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and programmes

Record keeping and basic IT skills (email, MS Office, site systems).

Working Conditions

This role will involve outdoor working in all weather conditions and may include early starts, nightshift, weekend work and travel to different sites depending on project requirements.
