Full job description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Hockey Coach to join our well-resourced department. The successful candidate will be inspirational in their subject, innovative and show a real desire to motivate pupils of all abilities to realise their full potential.

You will have the skills and abilities to engage and enthuse different types of learners and to work productively as part of a whole school team. At Langley, we see it as our mission to foster a genuine and lasting love of Hockey through exciting, well-planned and engaging lessons in which pupils are challenged and encouraged to learn from their mistakes. Langley is very fortunate to have extensive grounds, floodlit Astro pitches nearby, Sports Hall and hard courts. Matches and fixtures, locally regionally and nationally are a very important part of the Games Department’s offer; we participate at a local, regional and national level in a variety of sports. Teams from all year groups, in all our core sports (Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Football, Cricket) compete on a regular basis. The PE teaching team works very closely with our highly experienced Sports Coaches and the Langley Football and Rugby Academies.

Position: Hockey Coach

Site: Langley School, Langley Park, NR14 6BJ

Reporting to: Head of Sport (Senior)

Hours: 13.5 hours (Part-time)

Pay: Full-time salary of £27,405.85, Actual salary of £9,866.11 (SS20)

Contract type: 22 Weeks Fixed Term ending in Easter (term-time only).

Start Date: September 2026

JOB DESCRIPTION

Delivery:

  • Deliver Hockey sessions in line with the Games, Enrichment and Lunchtime offer across all year groups and ability levels. This will include any pre-season activity.
  • Attend fixtures in accordance with the planned block of termly fixtures. This may include evenings and weekends
  • Support a team of coaches through provision of a weekly Hockey programme, in line with the Langley Sport model of delivery.
  • Support opportunities for individual and team analysis through the use of available technologies.
  • Support scholars with the maintenance of their Individual Development Plans.
  • Support on the delivery of other sports in the Lent and Trinity terms.

Admin:

  • Ensure team sheets are produced and communicated to parents and relevant staff members in good time. This includes confirming the arrival and

departure of pupils on fixture days, where appropriate.

Outreach:

  • Help maintain healthy relationships with local clubs to ensure the best external opportunities for pupils.
  • Liaise with the Head of Hockey on potential recruitment opportunities.
  • Support events, competitions and festivals at Langley School in collaboration with the wider hockey.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Hold an appropriate coaching qualification and experience relevant to the role.

- Have a record of outstanding coaching practice, with the ability to communicate with and inspire students in an imaginative and enthusiastic way.

- Able to embrace new technologies and integrate ICT into teaching, as appropriate.

- Work with the Head of Hockey to support the professional development of all staff within the department through training and sharing of best practice in Hockey coaching.

- A willingness to contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme of the department, fixtures, events and trips.

-Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, pupils and parents.

- Act as a role model to others, demonstrating high standards of professionalism in all aspects of coaching to inspire and enthuse students and colleagues.

- Support the school’s extensive fixture programme, including active participation in sports tours, transportation, organisation of facilities and parental communications.

- Celebrate pupils’ performance and hard work through displays throughout the department, around the school and in assemblies.

- Proactively coordinate the feedback of pupil performance to parents.

- Work with the wider staff body on outreach programmes developing strong links with local clubs, schools and organisations.
