Occupational Therapist – Mental Health
Location: Ayr
Salary: £38000
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist mental health and rehabilitation service in Ayrshire for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join an established Occupational Therapy and multidisciplinary team.
The service provides specialist low-secure mental health care alongside step-down rehabilitation services, supporting men and women with a range of complex mental health needs, including mental health diagnoses and personality disorders.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about recovery-focused practice and wants to use meaningful occupation to support individuals in developing skills, independence and engagement as they progress through their rehabilitation journey.
The Role
You will work as part of an established Occupational Therapy service alongside Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants, while working closely with colleagues across psychiatry, nursing, psychology and the wider multidisciplinary team.
You will manage a designated caseload and provide occupation-focused assessment and intervention through both individual and group work.
The role will involve supporting service users to identify meaningful goals, overcome barriers to participation and develop the practical and functional skills required to progress towards greater independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments, identifying occupational needs, strengths, goals and barriers to participation.
- Manage a designated caseload and prioritise referrals according to clinical and occupational need.
- Develop, coordinate and review individualised Occupational Therapy treatment plans.
- Plan and deliver meaningful, occupation-focused individual and group interventions.
- Support service users to develop independence, functional skills and engagement in meaningful activity.
- Use evidence-based Occupational Therapy approaches throughout assessment and intervention.
- Monitor and evaluate outcomes, adapting interventions in response to progress and changing needs.
- Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality clinical records and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with service users and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated, person-centred care.
- Work closely with psychiatry, nursing, psychology and other professionals to support holistic rehabilitation and recovery.
- Provide support and supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants and junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, reviews and care planning.
- Promote the role and contribution of Occupational Therapy across the service.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all clinical practice complies with professional standards, organisational policies and relevant statutory and quality requirements.
- Maintain ongoing professional development and keep clinical knowledge up to date.
