Full job description

Job Purpose:
To deliver high-quality therapy sessions for students enrolled at In Toto Ed, ensuring they develop emotional and psychological resilience, improve their self-esteem, and enhance their personal growth through creative therapeutic approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

Therapeutic Sessions:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group therapy sessions to students aged 11–21, addressing emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs.
  • Develop tailored therapeutic plans based on individual assessments to support students’ personal growth and emotional well-being.
  • Use a variety of creative methods and therapeutic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media, to help students express their emotions and process trauma.
  • Monitor and track students’ progress through regular assessments and therapeutic observations.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring their emotions.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Assess students' emotional and psychological needs, developing individual treatment goals and therapeutic plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all sessions, including progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Provide regular feedback to students, teachers, and SENCOs regarding students' emotional development and therapeutic progress.

Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Work:

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other therapists to ensure a holistic approach to students’ education and well-being.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss students' progress, treatment plans, and educational needs.

Curriculum and Therapy Integration:

  • Ensure therapy sessions are aligned with the school's overall approach to personalised learning and emotional support.
  • Adapt therapeutic approaches to meet the individual needs of students, particularly those with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and trauma.
  • Contribute to the creation of individualised learning packages that support students’ therapeutic and educational needs.

Safeguarding and Professional Standards:

  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Maintain professional standards in all interactions, adhering to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Code of Ethics.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development (CPD) to keep up-to-date with the latest therapeutic approaches and best practices.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with professional guidelines.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to school reports and reviews on student progress.
  • Ensure that all activities and documentation comply with school policies and HCPC requirements.

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria:

  • HCPC-registered Therapist.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally working with children and young people.
  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those with ASD, ADHD, and trauma.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential clinical records and provide constructive feedback to students and staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a school or alternative provision setting.
  • Familiarity with the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process.
  • Additional training or qualifications in integrative therapies, such as music, drama, or play therapy.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
