Compass Community is an independent therapeutic agency caring, educating and supporting nearly 2,000 children and young people through Fostering, Residential Homes and Education. We pride ourselves on attending to the social, emotional, cognitive and sensorial needs of all our young people.

Therapeutic Services at Compass has an embedded record of successful evidence of our Assessing and Healing Complex Trauma (AHCT) approach which has already made a difference to the lives of 100’s of young people.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Therapeutic Practitioner, whose professional background and training is underpinned by theories of working with trauma, attachment and loss. You will have good working knowledge in supporting children and young people in the Care sector.

About the role:

To be a key participant in the Assessing and Healing components for helping traumatised young people.

  • To work in collaboration with all people involved in the children’s lives and strive to ensure that they reach their full potential. This involves liaising with professionals such as registered managers, parents, teachers, care staff, foster carers, social workers, family members and colleagues in Therapeutic Services.
  • To understand the presentations of Complex Trauma.
  • To help the effective functioning of the Social and Emotional Welfare (SEW) Assessment on all our young people.
  • To be a primary author of the holistic therapeutic assessment reports.
  • To provide therapeutic training workshops to staff to promote residential workers into therapeutic residential workers.
  • To lead Child-focused supervision case discussions regarding all the young people in the setting.
  • To be able to plan therapeutic interventions for young people within group work in relation to identity, self-esteem, positive interactions and social skills.
  • To spend time in the home to role-model, explore and embed therapeutic interactions and principles between staff and young people.
  • To provide and enhance understanding of therapeutic theoretical concepts and the implementation into practice for the staff with young people.
  • To guide all staff members in their therapeutic professional development.
  • To be involved in Team Around the Child Meetings (TAC) to ensure collaborative thinking for the progress of the child in their AHCT therapy.
  • Maintain a commitment to anti-discriminatory ideology.
  • Attendance of Therapeutic Services Meetings and Reflective Groups.
  • Where applicable, you will be involved in developing the therapeutic community within the Community of Community programme under the guidance of the Royal College of Psychiatry in London.
  • Working hours are 4 days 09:00-17:00 and one shift of 12:00-20:00 during the week.

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years’ experience of working with children in the Child in Care Sector.
  • Good Leadership and training skills.
  • Level 5 in Management or Equivalent is desirable
  • Strong understanding of Attachment and Loss.
  • Evidence of Therapeutic Training/Qualifications
  • Psychological/counselling courses attended is desirable.
  • Active, energetic, creative, outgoing yet empathic character.
  • Good Communicator and Fluent English speaking
  • Full driving licence
  • Experience of group work with young people desirable
  • Experience of assessment in intervention
  • Evidence of literary ability to Level 5/A level standard.
  • Understanding responsibilities in protecting their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of their colleagues and others.
