Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide care and assistance to children with mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will work closely with children, their families, and mental health professionals to create a safe, nurturing environment that promotes emotional well-being and personal growth. You will play a pivotal role in helping children manage their mental health conditions and build essential life skills and help elevate their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Direct Support: Work one-on-one with children to assist them in daily activities, including personal care, educational support, and social interactions.

Emotional and Behavioral Support: Help children manage challenging behaviors, emotional distress, and anxiety, using therapeutic techniques and a trauma-informed approach.

Implement Care Plans: Follow individualized care plans designed by mental health professionals to ensure each child receives the support they need.

Build Trusting Relationships: Establish strong, positive relationships with children, offering comfort and reassurance during difficult times.

Support in Therapeutic Activities: Assist children in engaging with therapeutic activities such as play therapy, group therapy, or creative outlets (art, music, etc.).

Crisis Management: Respond appropriately to crises or escalating situations, using de-escalation techniques and following safety protocols.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of each child’s progress, behavior, and any incidents, sharing updates with the care team and family members as required.

Work Collaboratively: Collaborate with mental health professionals, teachers, and families to ensure holistic care and to address the unique needs of each child.

Promote Life Skills: Support children in developing social, communication, and life skills that will help them thrive in their environment.

Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, adhering to safeguarding policies and reporting concerns appropriately.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Experience working with children, particularly those with mental health challenges or behavioral difficulties.

Understanding of common childhood mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and autism spectrum disorders.

Knowledge of therapeutic approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, or play therapy (desirable but not essential).

A relevant qualification in childcare, social work, or mental health support (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent).

Key Skills and Attributes:

Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with children who may struggle with emotional and behavioral challenges.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with children, families, and care professionals.

Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure or crisis situations.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to work creatively to meet the child’s needs.

Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with mental health professionals and families.

A proactive and flexible approach to working, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of children.

Additional Requirements:

A clean background check/DBS clearance.

Right to work in UK

Basic First Aid and CPR certification (desirable).

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if required.

A valid driver’s license
