Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, polished, proactive Full-Time Barista to join our team. You must genuinely be a team player. We are not looking for vacation workers and you must live within easy travelling distance of The Pavilion in Godalming. You must have your own transport (public transport is not convenient to our location).

We are a much loved coffee shop but we are so much more. We are also a bar, an events venue, a sporting and community hub. No two days are the same. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast paced environment but is self motivated at quiet times, enjoys building relationships with our many regular customers and wants to develop potentially into a management role.

We can move from a steady pace to extremely busy in a matter of minutes. In this energetic role, you will craft delicious beverages, serve customers with enthusiasm, and ensure every visit is a memorable experience. Excellent service skills, and attention to detail are vital. Food safety is at the heart of everything we do. Ambiance is vital and music and lighting together with a warm welcoming smile help create a lively atmosphere where customers feel valued and comfortable. This position offers a dynamic work environment where your skills in food preparation, time management, and serving are celebrated and developed daily. Being able to prioritize is vital.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks, teas, and specialty beverages with precision and flair
  • Engage with customers warmly, taking orders accurately and providing exceptional service
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workspace to ensure food safety standards are met. You will come with or need to take a Level 2 Food Health and Hygiene qualification.
  • Be fully conversant with ipad technology to process payments efficiently and quickly deal with any payment issues
  • Assist in food preparation tasks such as assembling snacks or light meals when needed
  • Manage multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining quality and speed
  • Follow all health and safety regulations diligently to uphold the highest standards of food safety
  • Help with food deliveries, checking stocks, checking use by dates and maintaining an orgnised, clean and safe working environment

Skills

  • Proven experience as a barista (you must be able to effectively stretch milk)
  • You must be over 18 so that you can also serve in the bar. Training in serving drinks will be given and experience is not necessary although it is an advantage.
  • You must demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices to ensure hygiene and compliance standards are met
  • Ability to prepare beverages accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Effective time management to prioritize tasks during busy periods
  • Experience in food preparation and serving enhances your ability to support team operations
  • Excellent communication skills to connect with customers and team members seamlessly
  • Although normal shifts are 8 hours, longer shifts may be required in busy times. No leave can be taken in the main cricket season from May - first week in July.
  • Flexibility during busy times is required, shifts may run late and a commitment to supporting the team at busy times is vital.

  • You need to live within easy traveling distance of The Pavilion. Public transport is not convenient so you must be able to walk to work or have access to your own transport.
  • We are a small team and you must be a good communicator and have a willingness to multitask in all areas of the business. It can be hard work but if you have experience in hospitality you know this already.
