Overview

St Michaels is one of the leading resorts in the South West & has ambition to be the very best. In the past couple of years we have been voted Best UK Spa Hotel (AA); Large Hotel of the Year (Cornwall Tourism Awards) and Best Hotel in South West (Trenchermans) We also have the largest health Club in Cornwall and one of the UK’s top spas.

This must be one of the most exciting hospitality management opportunities in the South West, building a real destination brand. We need an experienced hotel operator to join a small Board to drive the growth of St Michaels for the future

Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for the management of the hotel, the development of its business and operational delivery to a high standard
  • Development of annual business plans and budgets with other Directors
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted trading profit via a strong sales focus together with tight cost control
  • Build strong, well motivated, high performing teams in each department Train, mentor and support the teams to deliver higher levels of customer satisfaction.
  • All Operational HoD’s report to you including F & B Manager, Head Chef, Front of House manager, Head Housekeeper, Maintenance Manager , Spa Manager, Health Club Manager. Approx 180 operational staff
  • Maximise spend on property by all guests with a particular focus on dinner, beverage sales and spa treatments
  • Ensure the operation and atmosphere on property reflects the St Michaels brand and style guidelines
  • Deliver annual improvements in quality standards & the consistency with which they are delivered. Target higher levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business. Achieve a high review performance on Trip Advisor and Booking.com
  • Ensure effective control of all labour budgets and ensure staff costs are in line with agreed ratios to sales
  • Champion St Michael’s culture and values throughout the business
  • Champion the winning of industry and consumer awards and recognition
  • Ensure the physical property is maintained and managed to a high standard, with regular maintenance and improvement schedules.
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping throughout the property
  • Ensure compliance and best practice on fire, health & safety, food safety etc

Your Background and Experience

Essential:

  • Experienced hotelier with good exposure in all hotel departments. Must have worked in leisure oriented hotels before. Must have had experience of sizeable, busy operations (at least 40 beds plus). Previous experience at Operations Manager, Hotel Manager or General Manager level
  • Experience of both food and beverage and front of house management
  • Financially literate with good experience of managing a P & L
  • Strong leadership and man management skills is a crucial requirement. Proven success at building teams and developing people. A natural trainer who sets an example for others to follow. Very motivational. Someone who really believes that success is founded upon building a motivated, committed and happy team. Able to set clear targets and help the team to achieve/ surpass those targets.
  • Analytical, particularly with respect to creating systems and processes for the business. Able to break down and systemise tasks
  • Very strong communication skills
  • Hard working, passionate, bright
  • Outgoing and very personable
  • A natural leader with charisma and presence
  • A sense of style and aesthetics
  • A team player who is confident in themselves but also keen to encourage a participative and supportive management team.
  • Quality oriented with experience of putting in new standards.
  • Extremely honest and trustworthy with high standards of integrity

Desired:

  • Experience of spa management/ leisure management/ health clubs
  • 4 star plus experience/ AA Red stars experience or equivalent
  • Understanding of Cornwall

Salary/ Bonus:

Dependent on experience but around £70,000 on target earnings made up of a fixed salary of £60,000 - £65,000 depending upon experience plus bonus for achieving annual budget with an unlimited bonus structure after budgeted profit is achieved.

28 days annual holiday, including bank holidays. Meals / F & B/ , spa/ health club
