Set within 34 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens, Cromlix is a Victorian country estate where nature and hospitality are inseparable. Owned by Kim and Andy Murray, Cromlix reopened in 2023 following a major refurbishment, marking the start of an exciting journey as we continue to evolve the estate as a distinctive, world-class destination.

Our gardens play a vital role in how guests experience Cromlix — from peaceful woodland walks to produce grown on site for our kitchens. We are looking for Garden and Grounds Supervisor with a passion for immaculate grounds keeping to join the team and continue to help us provide an exceptional experience for our guests.

The role

Working alongside the Head Gardener, Skilled Gardener and wider team, you’ll help maintain and develop a diverse range of outdoor spaces including woodland, landscaped gardens, flower beds and productive growing areas.

The Garden Team enhances the natural beauty of our hotel’s outdoor spaces ensuring a luxury experience for our guests. We take a thoughtful, practical approach to gardening sustainably, guided by organic principles and a respect for the land we care for. Our aim is to balance beauty, productivity and responsibility, ensuring the estate continues to thrive for the future.

You’ll bring strong grounds keeping experience, ideally supported by relevant machinery tickets, along with a genuine pride in your work.

This is a hands-on role where quality, care and attention to detail matter.

You’re likely to thrive if you are:

• Passionate about grounds keeping and working outdoors
• Interested in plants - both ornamental and productive horticulture
• Knowledgeable, organised and adaptable across the seasons
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a close-knit team
• Approachable and happy to share knowledge with colleagues and guests
• Mid-stage career with minimum 3-5 years of experience in a public/commercial garden setting

Full Job Description

Leadership:

· Monitor all front facing areas of the Garden and Grounds at Cromlix.

· Contribute to weekly planning of the Garden and Grounds Team work schedule.

· Work alongside the Head Gardener and Skilled Gardener to support all members of the garden team in their tasks, including daily check-ins and collaboration.

· Maintain and develop relevant knowledge and skills that support the teams long term objectives ioncluding horticultural training.

Responsibilities:

· Groundskeeping: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, and planting to maintain the pristine condition of the hotel's woodland, landscaped garden ground.

· Irrigation and Water Management: Monitor and manage irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering schedules and identifying any repairs or improvements needed to conserve water and maintain healthy vegetation.

· Pest Control: Implement appropriate pest control measures to protect the grounds from pests and invasive species, including identifying potential threats and taking necessary actions in accordance with eco-friendly practices.

· Landscape Design: Collaborate with the landscaping team and management to develop and implement new landscape designs, ensuring they align with the hotel's aesthetic vision and complement the surrounding environment.

· Production: work closely with team members looking after the kitchen garden, gourmet garden and polytunnels to aid with the production, care and harvest of vegetables, herbs and flowers.

· Tree Care: Conduct regular inspections of trees on the property, identifying and addressing any potential risks, and coordinating with professional arborists for tree maintenance, pruning, and removal when necessary.

· Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the proper maintenance and repair of groundskeeping equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition, safely stored, and ready for use when needed.

· Waste Management: Coordinate the proper disposal and recycling of waste materials generated from groundskeeping activities, following environmental regulations and hotel policies.

· Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines, including the proper handling of equipment and chemicals, to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and team members. Comply with all relevant regulations and protocols related to environmental and sustainability practices.

· Guest Interaction: Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner, answering their questions and providing information about the hotel's outdoor spaces when required.

· Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as the gardening team, maintenance staff, and management, to ensure effective communication and coordination for achieving the highest standards of grounds maintenance.

• Confidence in handling customer complaints to ensure satisfaction levels are restored in the event something doesn’t go to plan; displaying empathy and a professional approach at all times
• Strong groundskeeping skillset, confidence with machinery and accompanying tickets.
