Full job description
Hotel Manager - Watergate Bay Hotel
80 rooms, 3 restaurants, and so much more.
Watergate Bay has always been more than a hotel. It's the beach, the ocean, the people, the energy - and everything in between. Owned by the same family for over 50 years, it's a place people return to, year after year, generation after generation.
We're looking for an exceptional Hotel Manager with experience across large, lifestyle-led properties to lead us into our next chapter.
This is a key leadership role, responsible for the hotel's day-to-day running and for delivering exceptional guest experience, operational excellence, strong commercial performance and a positive team culture. You'll need to be hands-on, adaptable, and ready to get stuck in.
We're led by warmth, confidence, and care. It's the Watergate Bay Hotel way.
We're also a busy 80-room hotel, home to an energetic operation spanning three restaurants, four kitchens, an Ofsted-registered Kids Zone and a state-of-the-art Swim Club. Alongside this, we organise a daily programme of activities for families keen to explore the wild Cornish outdoors and discover the magic of our surrounding beaches.
Quiet periods are reserved for our Ocean Room sofas, here. When you walk through our doors, you'll be ready for everything the day brings, come rain or shine. Working closely with the Operations Director, you'll lead the hotel management team and ensure every part of the operation works together to deliver our brand, standards, and personality that makes Watergate Bay Hotel distinctive.
What we're looking for
Reporting to the Operations Director, you'll collaborate with Brand Delivery, Finance, Marketing and Business Development to turn the business strategy into excellent operational delivery. You'll also bring substantial senior leadership experience in a high-quality hotel, with a proven track record in guest experience, multi-department operations, F&B performance and people leadership.
You'll be the leader we come to when we need to measure our P&Ls, productivity, revenue drivers, budgets and commercial performance, but you'll also be an exceptional people person that thrives in delivering genuine, warm and engaging guest experiences.
We're looking for someone who knows what makes a hotel exceptional, thrives on being present, visible and engaged, and will be passionate about who we are and why we do what we do.
You'll be
- A passionate hospitality leader with exceptional instincts for guest experience
- Ready to step up into the role of a lifetime with a minimum of 2 years in hotel deputy management (in a similar sized property)
- Experienced in the management of multiple restaurants (ideally located together)
- Well versed in lifestyle-led leisure with an eye for detail
- Familiar with branding and tone of voice, experienced in putting these into practice across events, venues, and day-to-day operations
- Commercially minded, with sound operational and financial judgement
- An inspiring, visible and authentic people leader - genuine, never scripted
- Confident in making decisions and holding others accountable
- Highly attentive to detail while keeping wider business priorities in view
- Naturally collaborative, with the ability to bring people with you
- Genuinely committed to sustainability and responsible business
Most importantly, you'll care: about our guests, your teams and every detail. If you're not already located in Cornwall, you'll be looking to relocate to live within proximity of the hotel. We can arrange temporary accommodation to support with this, and have a fantastic HR team on hand ready to answer your relocation questions.
What you'll be responsible for
- Leading the hotel's day-to-day operation and maintaining consistently high standards across F&B, rooms, housekeeping, events, maintenance and the Swim Club
- Championing a guest-first culture - one where people are welcome just as they are - and using feedback and insight to continually improve the guest experience
- Leading, coaching and developing departmental leaders to build accountability, collaboration and a high-performing culture that champions our brand values whilst doing so.
- Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and development of management team members, helping to build a strong pipeline of future talent
- Delivering agreed operational and commercial objectives through effective management of labour, productivity, costs and departmental performance
- Partnering with the Operations Director, Head of Brand and wider teams to ensure programming, F&B, events and guest experiences are distinctive and commercially effective - full of the creativity and consideration that make a stay or visit memorable
- Working with the Operations Director to implement the hotel's strategic priorities and business plan
- Bringing the Watergate Bay brand and its values to life through everyday leadership, behaviour and decision-making
- Championing our commitments to people, place and planet by embedding sustainability in the way the hotel operates
- Protecting what makes Watergate Bay special, while continually finding ways to evolve it
Great hospitality is felt, not simply delivered. It comes from the people, the energy and the care behind every experience we create.
Why us?
At Watergate Bay Hotel, you'll be joining a values-led business with an ambitious team, a distinctive brand, and a genuine commitment to its people, its place and its future.
Through proper hospitality and thoughtful experiences, we create the time and space for guests and teams to feel their best. Everything we do is rooted in warmth, confidence and care, with sustainability and community firmly at our heart.
We're shaped by the sea and the sand. Life here moves with the tide - full of energy, balance and ease. As our Hotel Manager, you'll have the opportunity to shape this experience every day, from the quality of our service to the culture of the team delivering it.
Alongside a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, with enhanced maternity and paternity pay, ongoing professional development, team experiences and events throughout the year, and discounts on stays, food and drink and activities.
Working here isn't just a job - it's a chance to help create something that really matters. Now, and for generations to come.
If you're ready to lead, inspire and make a real difference, apply today and join us as our Hotel Manager.
