Housing Support Officer

Part time - 20 hours a week
Salary: £15.00 per hour
Location: Crawley, West Sussex

We are recruiting for a Housing Support Officer for an exciting project supporting tenants in Crawley.

As Housing Support Officer, you will support residents to sustain their tenancies and develop to the point where they could be stepped down to the private rented sector. The role will give you an opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of tenants.

Key responsibilities:

  • Building and maintaining a good professional relationship with tenants
  • Assisting tenants to move in, including assessing support needs
  • Responding to tenant emergencies
  • Working with the tenant's caseworker
  • Inspection of properties to monitor condition and identify any maintenance issues or safety risks
  • Assist tenants with Universal Credit, Council Tax and utility accounts
  • Assist with affordability assessments
  • Initial response to safeguarding or anti-social behaviour concerns
  • On site presence, including to give access to maintenance contractors
  • Provide support to the Service Manager with property management and admin tasks

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Have an understanding of tenancy management
  • Understand how to assess and support tenants with their individual housing needs
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Be able to form effective working relationships and work confidently with a range of stakeholders
  • Be versatile and flexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Understand housing compliance
  • Be able to professionally handle difficult situations
  • Have a drive to identify and help implement improvements to the service and accommodation
  • Have a compassionate and friendly personality with a genuine desire to help others and make a positive difference

As part of safeguarding requirements, a thorough vetting process is carried out as part of the appointment and the role is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

The role is a hybrid role and you will need to be able to work both at the accommodation in Crawley as well as working from home when not meeting with tenants. It is not possible to give an exact split between these and so flexibility will be needed, and given in return.

It is intended that the role is part time for 20 hours per week, which can be worked very flexibly across 4-5 days.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering message explaining your suitability for the role. Regrettably, applications without a covering message will not be considered.

Interviews will be held on a rolling basis, so please apply as soon as possible.
