Full job description

Location: Home-based
Salary: c. £30,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
Contract: Fixed-term contract for 3 months, with potential for extension

The Role

As Rent & Income Officer, you will play a key role in maximising rental income for specialist supported living tenants while supporting them to maintain their tenancies. You will manage rent accounts, monitor arrears, support Housing Benefit and Universal Credit claims, and work closely with tenants and colleagues to provide early intervention and effective income recovery solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in social housing income management or arrears recovery who is passionate about delivering high-quality customer service and supporting vulnerable tenants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage rent accounts and proactively recover arrears
  • Monitor and reconcile tenant accounts and payment records
  • Support tenants with Housing Benefit and Universal Credit housing costs
  • Liaise with local authorities and external agencies regarding benefit claims and payments
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements and support tenancy sustainment
  • Produce arrears reports and maintain accurate records
  • Work collaboratively with Housing Officers and support services
  • Deliver a professional, customer-focused service at all times

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in rent recovery, income management, credit control, or supported/social housing
  • Experience dealing with Housing Benefit claims
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and housing/case management systems
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive approach
