Job Introduction

Know repairs inside out? Love leading people? And reckon a great service starts with getting the basics brilliantly right?

We might just have the job for you….

We’re looking for a Senior Repairs Team Leader to join our team at Swarcliffe, taking the lead across responsive repairs, empty homes and planned works.

This isn’t a sit-behind-a-desk-and-watch-the-numbers kind of leadership role. You’ll be right at the heart of the operation, leading our trade operatives and repairs supervisors, making sure we’ve got the right people and skills in the right places and keeping a close eye on quality, performance and safety.

Because ultimately, it’s pretty simple: we want our customers to get a repairs service we can all be proud of.

What you’ll be getting stuck into:

There’s plenty going on, so you’ll need to enjoy a bit of pace!

You’ll:

  • Lead, motivate and support our trade operatives and repairs supervisors, creating a team where people feel valued, listened to and clear about what’s expected.
  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of responsive repairs, empty homes and planned works, making sure we hit the standards and targets set out within the Swarcliffe PFI contract.
  • Get ahead of workforce challenges, making sure we’ve got the right skills and resources available to meet demand.
  • Champion health, safety and compliance, making sure work is carried out safely and to the standards we expect.
  • Keep an eye on performance and spot potential problems early, stepping in before they become bigger ones.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and make sure we’re getting the quality and service we expect.
  • Take ownership when things don’t quite go to plan, including customer complaints, and use what we learn to make the service better.
  • Coach and develop your people, helping them build their skills and encouraging the whole team to keep improving.

In short? You’ll keep the operation moving, the team developing and our customers at the heart of it.

What will you bring?

First up, you’ll know your stuff when it comes to repairs, empty homes and planned works, ideally from a social housing environment.

But we’re looking for more than technical know-how.

You’ll be a genuine people person who knows how to lead a busy operational team, set clear expectations and get the best from people. You’ll be just as comfortable coaching someone through a challenge as you are looking at performance, sorting an operational problem or working with contractors to get something back on track.

You’ll also bring:

  • Strong experience of Health & Safety and property maintenance compliance
  • A good understanding of delivering services to cost, quality and timescale
  • Experience of managing subcontractors
  • Great planning and organisational skills, particularly when it comes to workforce planning
  • Confidence using data, KPIs and systems to understand how a service is performing
  • The ability to keep your cool when priorities change, because in repairs, they definitely will!
  • A real passion for developing people and continuously improving the service.

You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and access to a car, and you’ll need some flexibility for occasional out-of-hours work or emergency calls.

Why Yorkshire Housing?

We’re Yorkshire by name and Yorkshire by nature.

We’re here to make it possible for people to have a place they’re proud to call home, and our repairs service plays a massive part in making that happen.

So if you’re someone who’ll create trust, stay curious, make things happen and achieve impact, while bringing your team along with you, you’ll fit right in.

You’ll also get..

  • £51,750 per year
  • Permanent contract
  • 26 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Excellent pension and wellbeing benefits
  • The opportunity to deliver work that has a lasting impact on people's lives
