Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant – Housing Finance to join our Finance Team. The role will support day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, debtor monitoring, payment processing and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail and experience working with financial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring transactions are accurately and promptly processed.
  • Support payment runs and ensure payments are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Reconcile receipts and investigate unidentified or misallocated payments.
  • Support the monitoring and recovery of outstanding commercial and other debtor balances.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and payment portal accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare and maintain service charge reconciliations, ensuring income and expenditure are accurately recorded.
  • Reconcile managed units’ income and expenditure and investigate variances where required.
  • Support the annual review and processing of rent and service charge increases, including related account adjustments.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly.
  • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and audit trails for all accounting activities.
  • Review existing accounting models and processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement improvements to accounting models, reconciliations and reporting processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency and financial controls.
  • Work with the Head of Finance to identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts, audit schedules and supporting information.
  • Undertake ad hoc financial and accounting tasks as required

Experience

  • Qualified, part-qualified or actively studying towards an accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Experience in a similar finance role, ideally in the housing sector
  • Experience of service charge accounting and calculations
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and time management skills
  • Collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience working with housing data software Pyramid(desirable)
  • Experience with year end and audit processes (E)
