Full job description

Food Safety & Compliance Manager – Central Kitchen

Pure is looking for a meticulous and dependable Food Safety & Compliance Manager to join our Central Kitchen team. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining, monitoring, and continuously improving the food safety and compliance standards we have already established — ensuring that every process, record, and practice meets the highest regulatory and quality expectations.

This is not a role about building from scratch. It's about being the expert guardian of what we have, making sure our systems work in practice, and acting swiftly and professionally when issues arise.

A note on scope: this is not a Quality Assurance or laboratory-based role — you won't be running lab tests or product analysis. Instead, your focus is on making sure our existing food safety systems are followed properly in practice: documentation is completed correctly, records are accurate and up to date, and the team understands and applies our HACCP, SOP, and allergen processes day to day.

About the Role

As our Food Safety & Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for upholding our existing food safety framework and ensuring day-to-day compliance across all Central Kitchen operations. You will be the go-to person for quality concerns, complaints, and regulatory matters — keeping our standards high and our team well-supported.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and enforcing existing HACCP plans, SOPs, allergen controls, and CCP procedures on a daily basis
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all Health & Safety matters at the Central Kitchen
  • Managing and investigating food safety complaints, including foreign body incidents, from receipt through to resolution and closure
  • Conducting regular internal audits, hygiene inspections, and compliance checks to identify and address non-conformances
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date food safety records, traceability documentation, and audit trails
  • Ensuring the site is audit-ready at all times and managing the audit process on the day when EHO, SALSA and other regulatory bodies are in attendance
  • Coordinating with the operations team to address quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Monitoring product quality, shelf life, and production standards against established specifications
  • Supporting team members with food safety awareness through toolbox talks and day-to-day coaching
  • Escalating risks and non-conformances to relevant stakeholders in a timely and structured manner
  • Supporting Supervisors and Assistant Managers, ensuring they understand how to complete each HACCP compliance record to standard
  • Reviewing Supervisors' and Assistant Managers' records during their shifts, challenging observations, providing corrective coaching, and ensuring follow-through on actions
  • Empowering the management team to uphold the highest standards of food safety
  • Keeping allergen matrices, how-to cards, and labelling records accurate and current

What We're Looking For

We need someone who is thorough, calm under pressure, and passionate about doing things properly. You will need to be confident working independently while collaborating closely with the Central Kitchen operations team.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in a food safety, quality assurance, or compliance role within a food production or manufacturing environment
  • Solid working knowledge of UK food safety legislation, allergen regulations, and HACCP principles
  • Experience managing complaints, including foreign body incidents, through to root cause and resolution
  • Familiarity with SALSA, EHO, BRC, or similar audit frameworks
  • Strong documentation skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • A confident and professional approach when dealing with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders
  • Good communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with operational teams
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving compliance gaps

Our Values

At Pure, we live by our values:

Thoughtful — Clear, respectful, and self-aware in everything you do
Generous — Supportive, kind, and invested in the people around you
Inventive — Agile, accountable, and always looking for a better way
Passionate — Positive, proud, and committed to doing the right thing

Why Join Pure?

  • Be part of a purpose-driven, growing food business with a strong team culture
  • Play a meaningful role in protecting food safety standards across the business
  • Serve as a respected authority on compliance — a trusted voice at Central Kitchen
  • Work in a collaborative, supportive environment where your expertise is valued
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and progression

If you care deeply about food safety and want to make a real difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: Up to £40,000.00 per year

  • Discounted or free food
