This is a great opportunity to join a friendly and forward-thinking organisation in the heart of Worthing!

The National Counselling Society is a not-for-profit, professional association for counsellors and psychotherapists, with several thousand members in the UK. We hold an Accredited Register recognised by the Professional Standards Authority. The Society exists to support counsellors and psychotherapists, promote talking therapy and ensure that registered counsellors are safe, competent and ethical. We also have a sister society, the National Hypnotherapy Society, which is looked after by the same team and focuses on hypnotherapists and hypnotherapy.

The Society is looking for a suitable candidate to join our Membership Services Office. The Membership Services Office supports the day-to-day running of both Societies. You will be part of a hard-working, friendly, supportive team of six (including the Head of Membership Services).

Job Specification

Responsible for the daily administration of two societies

  • Answering member queries via phone or email
  • Inputting membership applications into the Societies’ systems
  • Updating existing member data
  • First-line assessing of applications for potential new members
  • Supporting members with their website profiles
  • Processing Direct Debits
  • Assisting new applicants

Person Specification

We are looking for a team-player, with a positive attitude, who enjoys helping people and is comfortable working under pressure.


  • Ability to work in a busy, sometimes pressurised environment
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent phone manner
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A quick learner
  • Microsoft Office literate
  • A positive and member-focused attitude


  • Experience of working in a membership services team / admin role
  • An interest in counselling / therapy
  • Experience of database management
  • Ability to develop processes and procedures

  • Starting salary of £21,000 (this goes up after the first year)

  • Holiday entitlement 20 days (plus Bank Holidays), increasing by one day per full year worked
