Full job description

Shape the future of public services across one of the UK's largest local authorities

We're looking for an experienced IT Delivery Architect to join Hampshire County Council at a pivotal time.

Alongside delivering major digital transformation programmes, we're preparing for Local Government Reorganisation, a once-in-a-generation change that will reshape how local services are delivered across Hampshire.

This is a rare opportunity to influence technology strategy and architecture at scale, helping design the digital foundations that will support services relied upon by more than a million residents.

If you're looking for a role that combines technical leadership, strategic influence and CV-defining transformation experience, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll do

As an IT Delivery Architect, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of complex projects and programmes, many with budgets exceeding £1m.

Working alongside Enterprise Architects, Technical Specialists, Programme Managers and senior business leaders, you'll:

  • Lead architecture and solution design for large, complex projects
  • Produce secure, scalable and cost-effective technology designs
  • Shape projects from concept through to delivery
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders
  • Identify and manage technical and business risks
  • Support business cases, cost modelling and technology strategy
  • Work across cloud, infrastructure, security, networking and integration technologies

About you

You'll be an experienced Architect, Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Technical Design Architect, Solutions Architect or similar professional with a passion for solving complex challenges.

You will bring:

  • Experience designing enterprise-scale IT solutions
  • Strong hybrid cloud architecture knowledge
  • Broad technical expertise across infrastructure, cloud and security
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience working on complex change or transformation programmes
  • The ability to translate business needs into practical technology solutions
  • Professional certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco or similar are desirable.

Why join Hampshire County Council?

This is more than an architecture role. It's an opportunity to join one of the largest and most complex local government organisations in the country at a pivotal moment in its history.

You'll work on programmes that directly support critical services, from children's services and adult social care through to highways, schools and community services.

  • Work on major transformation programmes
  • Influence technology decisions across one of the UK's largest local authorities
  • Competitive salary and Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Generous annual leave and benefits package
  • Supportive and collaborative architecture community

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical expertise, strategic influence and meaningful public impact, we'd love to hear from you. For an informal discussion, contact Rob Tillman, IT Delivery Architect Team Leader - rob.tillman@hants.gov.uk
