Full job description

Job Title: Technical Development Assistant

Location: Kings Hill, Kent

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Salary: 30,000-35,000 per annum

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Reporting To: Technical Development Lead

About Us

iMist has been successfully trading across the UK for over ten years within the domestic and residential sectors. We are in dynamic growth mode, so it is exciting and fast-paced. We do everything in house because we want to maintain our reputation for quality and agility. If you are driven by the opportunity for success and you’re able to work in an organised and methodical manner, we have an opportunity for you within our team.

The Role

We are building our own operations and CRM platform to run the business, and we use AI coding tools heavily to do it. The Technical Development Assistant supports the Technical Development Lead across that platform, our wider technical projects and day-to-day IT. You will be expected to be comfortable working with AI tools, to understand what good output looks like, and to test and check it properly.

This is a varied role, and no two weeks look the same. One day you might sit down with senior stakeholders such as our Operations Director or Business Improvement Manager, who will explain what they want to achieve, and work with the Technical Development Lead to make it possible. The next you might pick up a scoped feature, working from a written brief and using AI coding tools to build it, then check it against an acceptance checklist. Alongside that, you will be iMist’s day-to-day link with our external IT support provider: triaging issues to them, stepping in when something urgent needs a fast answer, sense-checking their work, making sure we get good value, and collaborating with them to plan and roll out new projects.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Working with senior stakeholders to understand what they want to achieve, and helping turn that into scoped, buildable work

· Building scoped features and fixes end to end using AI coding tools, from brief to tested, working code

· Working from written briefs and checking completed work against acceptance criteria

· Demoing completed work to the people who will use it and capturing their feedback

· Testing new features, reviewing changes and reporting issues clearly

· Reading and sanity-checking code (Python and TypeScript), and flagging anything that looks wrong, insecure or unclear

· Preparing and maintaining test and seed data

· Managing and updating tickets and project documentation so work is easy to track and hand over

· Taking ownership of small projects and seeing them through, with support from the Technical Development Lead

· Acting as the first point of contact for IT issues, triaging to our external IT support provider and handling urgent issues directly where needed

· Reviewing the provider’s work and recommendations, asking good questions, and helping ensure we get good value and a quality service

· Collaborating with the provider to plan, integrate and roll out new systems and projects

· Hands-on administration of Microsoft 365, Teams and Entra where it makes sense to do it in house

· Supporting other technical and R&D projects as they come up, including hardware testing

· Keeping simple, accurate records of IT assets, systems and processes

Qualifications and Experience:

· Daily, practical experience using AI tools for coding or technical work, and a good sense of their limits

· Able to troubleshoot methodically, including when AI tools give wrong or incomplete answers

· Experience in an IT support, technical, or development-related role, or a strong record of self-directed technical projects

· Ability to read code and understand what it does, ideally Python and/or TypeScript

· Solid IT fundamentals, including Microsoft 365, Windows, and general troubleshooting

· Familiarity with git and GitHub

· Experience following written specifications and testing against them

· Clear written communication, especially when reporting bugs or explaining technical issues to non-technical colleagues

· Experience working with third-party suppliers, and confidence challenging them politely when something doesn’t look right

Desirable:

· Experience building websites, web apps or platforms, ideally with Vue, TypeScript or a similar modern framework

· Personal or hobby projects you can show us (GitHub, a live site, a game, a tool)

· Basic understanding of databases and APIs

· Exposure to Azure, Entra ID or Microsoft Teams administration

· Interest in fire safety, electronics or hardware

This role would suit a candidate with the below behaviours/attitude:

· Strong problem-solving instincts: breaks an issue down, tries sensible fixes before escalating, and can explain what they tried

· Curious, with a habit of checking things rather than assuming they work

· Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach

· Good judgement about when to push on and when to ask

· Able to juggle development work and IT support requests without dropping either

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Strong work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile when required

Benefits:

· 31 days’ annual leave (including Bank Holidays and Christmas shutdown).

· Enhanced annual leave with length of service.

· NEST pension scheme.

· Healthcare benefits upon completion of a 6-month probation period.

· Company wellness days.
