Full job description

Background

Vigo IT Solutions (we call ourselves just ‘Vigo’) has been delivering IT support in Wirral and the Northwest of England since 2008 and we expanded into North Wales with our Anglesey office in 2023. We deliver IT support services, network infrastructure, IT Cyber Security and data security services along with CCTV and door access solutions.

We have a track record of caring for and developing our teams and we will fully support your integration to Vigo with in-house training and coaching. We will, however, encourage you to think for yourself, develop your skills, contribute fully and enjoy your work and our shared success.

Purpose of the Role

This role is based in our Birkenhead office.

The main purpose of this role is to assist the Technical Solutions team by preparing and configuring a variety of equipment to be used by clients. This is an important role, and the work needs to be done to a high standard. The preparation involves both hardware and software elements. Alongside this, the role will often troubleshoot hardware/software from existing clients when they are brought to the office for testing.

It’s a great opportunity to be involved in a variety of hardware and software and to be able to plan and take charge of your own workload in a measured and organised way. Communication with clients and our own staff is important so you must be comfortable dealing with people both face to face and via phone/email.

Reporting to the Technical Project Manager, you’ll need to have some IT Build and system troubleshooting experience, ideally in a Managed Service Provider environment. You should know your way around Windows operating systems and be familiar with MacOS, as well as a range of hardware and software. You’ve probably already guessed but we also need someone who is a strong team player, that can deal with people from all backgrounds and organisational levels, and someone who takes pride in delivering first-class services to clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

Support\Configuration

· Set up new devices ready for project rollout to clients.

· Install, configure and upgrade hardware and software components to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with system and client requirements.

· Perform routine maintenance tasks on systems, including cleaning hardware, checking for viruses and managing software updates.

· Diagnose, repair or replace damaged hardware.

· Install and upgrade antivirus software.

· Adhere to client software/hardware and network requirements.

· Perform tests on new hardware/software to ensure they are functional.

· Ensure that client and other requirements are met, and that faults, builds and repairs are completed within service level agreements.

Administration

· Take ownership of build tickets and be proactive when dealing with issues logged by users.

· Update documentation with system changes and new passwords.

· Add ticket notes and carry out administration including billing for work that is chargeable.

· Liaise with the Project Manager to ensure computers are prepared in time for delivery to site.

· Escalate issues/faults to the Head of Operations, Project Manager or Technical Leads where necessary.

· Keep your work area tidy and organised.

Customer Service

· Deliver high-quality support to our clients.

· Provide technical support and guidance to users on hardware-related issues, offering clear instructions and solutions to enhance the user experience.

· Be a key point of contact for clients and keep clients up to date on the progress of their tickets.

Skills and Qualities

A strong customer service focus and good communication skills are needed to provide high quality support to our clients over the phone, by email and through our ticketing system.

· Experience of analysing device and peripherals problems and resolving these.

· Diagnostic testing and component replacements.

· Experience of device assemblies.

· Experience of updating system software and installing anti-virus software.

· Windows 7 – 11 knowledge.

· Some Windows Server knowledge would be beneficial.

· Office 365 Administration.

· Networking - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN.

· If you’ve got CompTIA or other professional certification, so much the better but experience is more important to us than formal qualifications.

· A very tidy and organised individual able to keep track efficiently of the work they are undertaking.

· Good communication skills (telephone and face to face). Being able to communicate to our clients effectively and without jargon is at least as important as good technical skills.

· Able to prioritise and multitask.

· Keen to investigate, troubleshoot and understand unfamiliar systems.

Additional Info

· You’ll be based at our Birkenhead office in the Lauries.

· Our working week is 37.5 hours.

· Salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience, but you can expect in the range of £25,000 to £29,000.

· 8% employer pension and private healthcare after qualifying period.

· We have a legal responsibility to ensure that you have the right to work in the UK before you can start working for us. If you do not have the right to work in the UK already, any offer of employment we make to you will be conditional upon you gaining it.

We are a committed Armed Forces Covenant employer, and we will ensure that no reservist is disadvantaged in our workplace by offering 5 additional leave days to carry out their duties.

We support the employment of veterans, recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process, and we will support any employees who are volunteers in military cadet organisations by granting additional leave to attend training and courses.

To apply, please upload your CV and a covering letter telling us about yourself and why you have applied for the role - thank you.
