Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a GIS Specialist to join our Land Referencing and GIS team. Sitting within the Rural & Projects (R&P) division, we support the delivery of large scale utilities and infrastructure projects across the UK. The volume of this work has scaled rapidly in a short space of time and the GIS platform and team is evolving and expanding to keep pace with this demand. You will have real opportunity to influence the development of tools, standards and processes that can operate at scale whilst contributing meaningfully to a range of projects in the energy and utilities sectors.

Key Responsibilities

This is a home-based position and your focus will be in the following areas:

  • Delivering cartography and spatial analysis to support national infrastructure planning, land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and statutory processes.
  • Data management (spatial and non-spatial).
  • Creation and management of cloud hosted web GIS applications.
  • Development and ongoing revision of GIS technical standards.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate workflows using Python and FME.
  • Contributing to the development of improved project management tools and methodologies.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams and IT support functions to ensure that GIS systems, processes, tools and outputs meet the needs of project delivery.

We’re looking for individuals with a genuine interest in using GIS in innovative and interesting ways. You don’t need to be an expert at everything, but you need to have the drive and aptitude to pick up new skills quickly and enjoy identifying and implementing solutions to technical challenges.

You will have experience using QGIS, cloud hosted GIS platforms (ArcGIS Online, groundMapper, LandApp), and knowledge of or exposure to workflow automation using Python and FME.

In addition, you will be able to analyse spatial data to produce technically accurate analytical outputs and visually appealing maps to support decision making by colleagues and clients.

You will be able to communicate effectively with internal and external clients, be calm under pressure and demonstrate the ability to prioritise effectively whilst upholding meticulous attention to detail.

We are looking for an individual who will thrive as part of a friendly and collegiate team with a real interest in what they do and a commitment to delivering consistently high levels of service.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a growing division with a pipeline of large projects and ambitious targets.
  • Contribute to the development of an enterprise GIS platform to support major project delivery.
  • Small, engaged team where collaboration and continuous improvement are valued.
  • Training provision to help you grow as a professional, keep up to date with developments in the wider GIS industry and support towards professional accreditation.
  • Be part of an organisation known for its people, expertise, and commitment to quality and client service.
