The Role: Why This Isn't Your Average Duty Manager Job

As our Duty Manager, you will take full ownership of the venue when on shift. While you will be responsible for guest satisfaction, team performance, and high operational standards, you will also be a key champion of our technology.

You don’t need to be a software developer, but you must have a genuine passion and strong aptitude for tech. You will work closely with our Technical Manager to learn how our state-of-the-art VR rigs, tracking systems, and setups function, ensuring our tech-driven guest experience is flawless from check-in to post-game.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tech Leadership & Asset Management

  • Drive Tech Performance: Take ownership of the venue's technical operations. Actively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise systems to ensure we run at peak operational capacity while adhering to Sandbox’s high standards.
  • Gear Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of our specialised haptic gear, weapons, and other equipment to keep them in pristine operational condition.
  • Supervise Lead Guides: Manage and audit Lead Guides to ensure daily equipment maintenance, thorough sanitisation, tracker upkeep, and technical workspace organisation are strictly maintained.
  • Stock & Budget Control: Lead monthly stock counts for technical spares and order replacement parts strictly within the designated budget.

2. Shift & Operational Excellence

  • The Five-Star Standard: Oversee daily operations with a strong, highly visible management presence on the floor.
  • Compliance & Safety: Act as the primary First Aider and Fire Marshal on shift, ensuring 100% accuracy when recording incidents, accidents, or near-misses.
  • SafetyCulture Audits: Ensure Lead Guides complete daily, weekly, and monthly opening/closing checklists to an exceptional standard.

3. Team & Culture Management

  • Motivate & Train: Run high-energy daily briefings, maximise staff productivity, and foster a proactive, sales-driven culture to boost beverage and admission revenue.
  • Admin & Accountability: Conduct Return to Work interviews, review and approve timesheets, and manage shift swaps. Handle low-level disciplinary investigations with absolute confidentiality and impartiality.

4. Guest Experience & Corporate Events

  • Guest Recovery: Resolve customer complaints on the spot with fairness and diplomacy, balancing guest satisfaction with the venue's financial interests.
  • Event Masterclass: Lead the flawless execution of corporate events. Prepare run sheets, set up welcome drinks/tokens, and act as the primary contact for corporate hosts to deliver a premium, seamless experience.

  • An Eye for Detail: You notice the small things, from a dusty corner to an unenthusiastic greeting, and you know how to constructively coach your team to fix it.
  • Highly Organised: You can comfortably balance rota planning, stock ordering, and team training without breaking a sweat.
