Immigration and Asylum Supervising Senior Caseworker

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and highly motivated Immigration and Asylum Supervising Senior Caseworker to join our busy and expanding practice on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied and complex caseload of immigration and asylum matters while providing supervision, guidance, and support to junior caseworkers in accordance with the Legal Aid Agency and Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) and/or Law Society requirements.

The role involves handling a broad range of immigration matters, including asylum and protection claims, human rights applications, family and private life applications, nationality and citizenship matters, visa and sponsorship applications, deportation and revocation cases, immigration appeals, judicial review proceedings, and bail applications. The successful candidate will provide clear, practical, and high-quality legal advice, prepare detailed applications and representations, and manage cases from initial instruction through to conclusion.

As a Supervising Senior Caseworker, you will oversee the work of junior fee earners and caseworkers, conduct regular file reviews, provide technical guidance and mentoring, ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency contract requirements and regulatory obligations, and maintain high standards of client care and case management. You will also assist with training, quality assurance, and the continued development of the department.

Key responsibilities include advising clients on complex immigration and asylum matters, preparing applications, witness statements, skeleton arguments, and appeal bundles, representing clients before the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), liaising with the Home Office, the courts, counsel, and other relevant agencies, and ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with professional, regulatory, and contractual standards. Daily office attendance, effective client communication, supervision of staff, and accurate file management will form an integral part of the role.

Applicants must have substantial experience in immigration and asylum law and be accredited as a Senior Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme (Level 2) or hold an equivalent qualification recognised by the Legal Aid Agency. Applicants must also satisfy the Legal Aid Agency supervisor requirements for the Immigration and Asylum category or be able to demonstrate eligibility to do so. Excellent advocacy, drafting, organisational, and client care skills are essential, together with the ability to manage a demanding caseload and supervise others effectively.
