Trainee Operations Technician – Foundations & Groundworks

Preformed Substructures Ltd – Surrey

Preformed Substructures Ltd designs and installs screw pile foundations and reinforced concrete foundations for construction projects across London and the South East.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated person to join our small specialist installation team as a Trainee Operations Technician.

This is a hands-on site role with clear and encouraged progression into technical and supervisory responsibilities.

This position suits someone who enjoys practical work, learning construction skills, and being part of a team that delivers projects safely and reliably.

What the Role Involves

You will work as part of a small crew installing foundations and carrying out groundworks operations including:

  • Screw pile foundation installation
  • Excavation and digging (sometimes by hand)
  • Steel reinforcement fixing (rebar)
  • Shuttering and formwork construction
  • Concrete placement and finishing
  • Reading construction drawings and layouts
  • Using digital project checklists and reporting systems
  • Progression to total station setting out and plant operation

Full training will be provided for suitable candidates.

Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
  • Own smartphone for clocking in/out
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills
  • CSCS card not required initially (training provided)

Pay & Skill Progression

We take pride in rewarding the added value your skills bring to the team so each time to achieve a new skill or qualification your pay is increased to reflect that

For example

Starting base rate: £13.00/hour

Within 1 week achieve a CSCS card test pass = +£1.00/hour so new rate is £14.00/hour

We have a set value assigned to each skill and progression is based on competence, reliability and responsibility, not just time served.

Location & Travel

  • Work starts and finishes at our Surrey yard
  • Company vans are used to travel to site
  • Rarely some projects involve long-distance travel or staying away (accommodation provided where required)
