Full job description
Help build the first law firm that can help everyone at once.
For hundreds of years, good legal advice has been rationed. We are ending that. Grapple is a legal AI that instantly gives the ordinary person legal assistance at an affordable price.
We are looking for a senior employment lawyer who wants to move from advising one client at a time to advising thousands. You would be the legal mind behind Grapple's employment law AI: the person who makes sure its analysis, its letters and its strategy are as sharp as your own.
This is a new kind of legal job. No client caseload, no court diary, no timesheets, no billing targets. If what you love is client contact or advocacy, this is not for you. If the idea of solving complex tech / law problems to help thousands of people at once excites you more than yet another standard case, read on.
About Grapple
Grapple Law is the AI lawyer for individuals who are getting beaten by the system - never for businesses.
Since launch in September 2025 we have around 6,000 monthly active users. Roughly £1.5M in settlements has been negotiated for our clients through Grapple. Our 700 plus Google and Trustpilot reviews are almost all five stars and here is some of the press commentary: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/woman-becomes-first-person-uk-36396901
The team today comprises the CEO (an employment law solicitor), two tech developers, one tech support, one content, one client success and a marketing manager. We care about creativity, health and wellbeing, and working in a way that fits your life.
Our ambition is not just a better legal chatbot . It is to develop an AI to cover every area of consumer law where an ordinary person gets beaten by a system with deeper pockets. We are aiming for coverage first across the UK and then moving into international markets. UK employment law is our starting point.
As a legal AI, Grapple is not a regulated entity, but we continue to hold discussions with the regulator, to ensure compliance with all applicable rules. For you, that means joining while the legal and compliance foundations are being built, and helping to shape them. You can still maintain a practising certificate just like in-house counsel (given that you won’t be engaging in reserved legal activities).
What you will be doing
Review: read the AI's conversations, letters and workflows for legal quality, compliance and effectiveness, and fix it where the reasoning or strategy falls short of how a seasoned employment lawyer would handle the matter.
Design: design, test and refine the prompts and logic behind the AI's legal output, and work with the developers to build tools like our AI ET1 and Acas forms.
Oversee: own the legal side of key processes such as settlement agreement sign off, and handle some compliance, complaints and liaison with regulators.
What you will not be doing
Running a caseload, or talking to clients much.
Billing hours, or being on the usual law firm treadmill.
Writing code
What the job actually feels like
Picture a normal week. You open a real client conversation the AI handled overnight and read it the way a supervising partner reads a junior's file: where is the analysis thin? Where did it miss a point? Where would you have pushed harder on the settlement?
You turn what you find into changes to the AI's instructions, test them, and by the afternoon your improved version is live and helping the next thousand people who arrive.
You then liaise with the developers to brainstorm designs for a new workflow - maybe the ET1 or the Acas flow - and help the developers understand how a good lawyer really thinks it through.
Some days you are deep in the legal processes, some days deep in user experience data. The loop is fast and the impact is visible: you get to see your own legal judgement, multiplied.
Who we are looking for
You should be a qualified solicitor, barrister, CILEX or equivalent with at least three years of UK experience in employment law for employees, and with a background or genuine interest in access to justice.
You do not need to have been a legal engineer before. This could be your first role of this kind. What you do need is to have genuine hands-on experience of using tech and AI already.
That’s beyond advanced AI prompting - think building your own workflows or automations. We’re looking for an employment lawyer with a tech builder's streak.
As we move towards SRA regulation, there is an opportunity to grow into a supervisory or compliance aspect of the role too, so it would help if you have dealt with complaints or other compliance.
Hours: 9 to 5.30, with genuine flexible working.
Pay: £60,000 to £90,000, depending on experience.
Location: Fully remote, with a London office if you want it.
Pay: £60,000.00-£90,000.00 per year
