About Kaleidoscope

Since 1968, Kaleidoscope has aimed to create a culture and environment where people feel valued and the people accessing our services are inspired to reach their own goals

We seek to tackle the stigma that people with drug, alcohol and mental health issues face. We do this through direct campaigning and lobbying for better government policies that support, not punish our community. To deliver a successful service we recognise:

  • That the people accessing our services have skills and experiences that bring about change for themselves, their peers and their communities.
  • That developing and investing in our people builds compassionate and pioneering teams.
  • That if we create the right places, stability and creativity thrive.

Every year, Kaleidoscope supports over 10,000 people

As a leading charity in drug and alcohol services, we blend bold harm reductive approaches with detox, housing support, and peer-led programmes, empowering people to reduce harm, pursue recovery, and rebuild their lives.

About Birchwood

At Birchwood @ Kaleidoscope House, we provide a safe and welcoming space for people seeking help with addiction and trauma recovery. Our 25-bed residential treatment facility in the heart of the Wirral is designed to offer comfort, support, and guidance every step of the way.

Our dedicated team works closely with each person, using a holistic approach to restore mental, emotional, and physical well-being. We’re here to empower people to move forward on their journey toward a brighter future.

Role Summary

The Income Generation Manager will be responsible for driving occupancy, income growth and business development opportunities for Birchwood, Kaleidoscope's residential detoxification and rehabilitation service. Supporting relationships with commissioners, local authorities, health partners and private referral sources, the role will develop strategic relationships that increase referrals, secure new business opportunities and strengthen Birchwood's market position.

As part of the wider Business Development Team, the postholder will lead sales, marketing, bid development and partnership-building activities, whilst providing commercial analysis and market intelligence to support service growth and long-term sustainability. The role will also contribute to organisational business development initiatives across Kaleidoscope, helping to identify and secure opportunities that support the charity's wider strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Income Generation & Occupancy Growth

  • Lead the development and delivery of Birchwood's income generation strategy, ensuring sustainable growth in occupancy and revenue.
  • Identify opportunities to diversify income streams, including new service offers, referral pathways and commissioned programmes.
  • Undertake regular market analysis, review new and emerging drug trends, and identify gaps in service provision.
  • Undertake market research and competitor analysis to identify emerging opportunities and respond to changing sector needs.

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of new business opportunities that support Birchwood's commercial sustainability and strategic growth.
  • Support the development of relationships with commissioners, Integrated Care Boards, local authorities, probation services, housing providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the representation of Birchwood and Kaleidoscope at relevant meetings, forums, conferences and networking events.
  • Develop new income generation pathways with the wider business development team, such as Trusts, Grants, Individual Giving and Corporate Sponsorships.

Contracts, Tenders & Frameworks

  • Lead the preparation and submission of framework applications, tenders, proposals and bid responses relating to Birchwood services.
  • Work collaboratively with operational and clinical colleagues to develop compelling, evidence-based bids and service proposals.
  • Support contract mobilisation and implementation activities relating to new business opportunities.
  • Maintain intelligence on commissioning intentions, procurement opportunities and future funding streams.

Marketing & Promotion

  • Develop and deliver marketing and referral engagement plans that raise the profile of Birchwood and increase awareness amongst key audiences.
  • Produce and coordinate promotional materials, case studies, website content and social media activity relating to Birchwood services.
  • Develop targeted campaigns aimed at increasing referrals from both statutory and private sources.

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing referrers to encourage repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Act as a key point of contact for commissioners, referral agencies and prospective partners.
  • Work closely with operational and clinical teams to ensure referral and admission processes are responsive and effective.

Performance & Reporting

  • Monitor and analyse business development, referral, occupancy and income performance data.
  • Produce regular reports, forecasts and dashboards for senior management and the Board.
  • Identify risks and opportunities affecting income generation and recommend mitigating actions.
  • Contribute to business planning processes, supporting the long-term sustainability and growth of Birchwood.

Organisational Contribution

  • Work as part of Kaleidoscope's wider Business Development Team to support organisational income generation and growth objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of new services, partnerships and funding opportunities across the wider organisation.
  • Support cross-organisational bids, proposals and business development initiatives where required.
  • Promote Kaleidoscope's values and reputation in all external engagement activities.
