Job Title: CAD Technician (Temporary Works Team)

Location: Grangemouth / Warrington / Annesley / Stafford / Bristol / Indian Queens

Our Temporary Works team plays a critical role across the business, supporting Environment, Highways and Building projects by delivering high-quality, practical and buildable temporary works design solutions.

Purpose of the Role

As CAD Technician you will be responsible for all activities associated with the production of CAD Design in compliance with the Business Management Systems (BMS) and CDM regulations, as part of a team providing design and design checking services for a full range of temporary works from excavations and working platforms to formwork, falsework & scaffolding. The services also include alternative solutions, value engineering, buildability, and problem/defect resolution.

Key Accountabilities

  • Produce high-quality CAD drawings and 3D models to support temporary works design and construction sequencing.
  • Support early-stage design development including layout and space proofing.
  • Assist engineers with design development, including risk assessments and technical queries.
  • Coordinate and manage models in line with Business Management Systems (BMS) requirements.
  • Carry out clash detection, model checks and reporting using BIM tools.
  • Ensure correct levels of detail (LOD) and information (LOI) across all design outputs.
  • Review and coordinate supply chain design models and integrate into project designs.
  • Support tender submissions and pre-construction activities as required.
  • Contribute to buildable, efficient and value-engineered design solutions.

Key Responsibilities in the Role

  • Produce design outputs including general arrangements, models, schedules and surveys.
  • Manage and maintain CAD/BIM models, ensuring quality and coordination across disciplines.
  • Perform model audits, quality checks and ensure compliance before issuing to the CDE.
  • Support temporary works design across excavations, working platforms, scaffolding, formwork and falsework.
  • Assist with technical coordination between design teams, suppliers and project teams.
  • Identify design risks and support mitigation through design development.
  • Support construction teams with design queries and technical input during delivery stages.
  • Ensure all work complies with CDM regulations, H&S requirements and company standards.

About You

  • Experience in a CAD Technician role within construction, infrastructure or engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of Civils 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Experience working within BIM environments, including model coordination and clash detection.
  • Understanding of temporary works or willingness to develop knowledge in this area.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and construction design processes.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deliverables to deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks or other BIM tools.
  • Understanding of fabrication, constructability and temporary works design principles.
  • Exposure to water, infrastructure or highways projects.
