Full job description

Private Educational Governess / KS1 Tutor (Solihull)

The Role

An informal, welcoming family based in Solihull is seeking a warm, experienced, and highly qualified Governess/Private Tutor on a permanent basis. The primary focus of this role is to provide dedicated educational support to the family's 6-year-old daughter. While she attends an excellent private school, she currently requires gentle, focused, and engaging academic support to build her confidence and help her catch up to her peers.

The Family Environment

This is a relaxed, informal household. The family has three children (a 16-year-old boy, the 6-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old boy). Both parents are heavily involved and present in the home, meaning no sole-charge childcare duties are required. You will be viewed as an educational specialist and a valued extension of the family, working alongside the parents to ensure the 6-year-old thrives.

Schedule & Hours

Term Time (Part-Time): Approximately 15–20 hours per week — a few hours each weekday evening, plus an estimated 8 hours across the weekend.

School Holidays (Full-Time): The role transitions to full-time hours to provide consistent educational enrichment and routine while school is out.

Duties & Responsibilities

Liaise with the 6-year-old's school to understand her curriculum and areas for improvement.

Create bespoke, engaging, and play-based learning plans to support literacy, numeracy, and overall cognitive development.

Assist with homework and school projects.

Foster a love of learning in a stress-free, supportive environment.

The Ideal Candidate

Holds a formal teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) with distinct experience in Early Years or Key Stage 1 (KS1).

Has a track record of private tutoring or governess experience.

Is incredibly patient, nurturing, and skilled at making education feel like a fun activity rather than a chore.

Is adaptable, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable operating within a busy but relaxed family home.

Compensation & Requirements

Salary: £40,000 to £70,000 depending on experience.

Enhanced DBS check, rigorous reference verification, and a signed NDA are mandatory prior to interview.

To Apply: Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with KS1 educational support.

Pay: £40,000.00-£70,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Discounted or free food
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
