Job Posting End Date: September 01

Who are we?

We’re a specialist employee benefits provider, striving to create healthy, happy workplaces. As part of the international Unum Group, we’re on a collective mission to help the working world thrive.

The role

What will you be doing?

Make a meaningful impact with your clinical expertise
At Unum, we're here to help people when they're facing some of life's most challenging moments. As an Insurance Nurse Specialist, you'll use your nursing knowledge and professional judgement to support fair, informed and timely decisions for customers who are unable to work due to illness or injury.

What will you bring?

This is an opportunity to apply your clinical expertise in a different way, working alongside Claims Assessors, Rehabilitation professionals and medical colleagues to understand the impact of health conditions on an individual's ability to work and recover.

If you're a Registered General Nurse looking for a rewarding role that combines clinical thinking, problem-solving and customer outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing
As an Insurance Nurse Specialist, you'll provide expert medical insight to support our claims team.

The role involves working with individuals presenting with diverse health conditions and health related challenges. You will review and interpret medical evidence, identify functional restrictions, recovery expectations, and provide clear guidance that helps colleagues make informed decisions. You'll engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to gather information, clarify complex medical issues and ensure customers receive the right level of support.

You'll also play an important role in sharing your expertise across the business, helping nonclinical colleagues build their understanding of medical conditions, treatment pathways and functional capability.

What we're looking for
We're interested in hearing from experienced Registered Nurses who enjoy analysing information, solving problems and communicating in a clear, accurate and practical way.

You'll be confident reviewing medical evidence, interpreting the impact of health conditions on day-to-day functioning and providing a balanced, professional opinion to support customer outcomes.

We're particularly interested in candidates who can build strong relationships, work independently and thrive as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

You'll bring:
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification with active registration
  • Broad clinical experience across one or more specialties
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret complex medical information and explain findings clearly to both clinical and non-clinical audiences
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to manage priorities and work autonomously
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications

Experience in Occupational Health, Rehabilitation, Disability Assessment, Case Management or Insurance would be advantageous, but is not essential.

What makes this role different?
This role offers the chance to use your nursing skills in a new and rewarding way. You'll work with a wide variety of medical conditions, develop your commercial and insurance knowledge, and help customers navigate important moments in their lives, all while enjoying greater flexibility and work-life balance.

If you're ready to take your clinical career in a new direction, we'd love to hear from you.

Why join us?

At Unum, we’ve created a workplace where people feel supported to progress and grow, and can see their ambitions coming to life.

As a part of our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace , we actively encourage applications from those with disabilities and those with long-term health conditions.

If you meet the essential criteria for the role and choose to opt in to the scheme during your application, you will be offered an interview under the Disability Confident Scheme.

If you need assistance and/or reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to careers@unum.co.uk .

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer.
