Graduate Lending Underwriter. This is an underwriting role assessing and handling loan applications for specialist property finance loans between £200k and £15m.

This is a role with high levels of responsibility and exposure from the outset and serious opportunity for the right candidate.

Aspen Bridging is a principal specialist lender. It is part of S&U PLC a FTSE listed firm with a market cap of over £300m.

We are an award-winning lender ‘Product of the Year’ B&C Awards (2025, '22 & '18 winner) as well as ‘Highly Commended Newcomer’ and ‘Underwriter of the Year’ wins @ Crystal SF Awards.

We fund projects with loans up to £15m for property developers & international investors across the country. We are represented by and work closely with a panel of leading law firms such as Fieldfisher LLP and valuation experts such as Aitchison Rafferty to deliver the fastest service in the industry.

The role requires an active decision maker, performing multiple tasks including (amongst other things):

  • Providing initial illustrative quotes based on rapid security and deal analysis.
  • Risk analysis and pricing of a variety of loan proposals.
  • Assessing borrower suitability.
  • Visiting securities to assess them and review any works progress.
  • Explaining and documenting decisions made for credit reviews.
  • Issuing formal credit offers.
  • Liaising between lawyers and valuers and managing their progress.
  • Negotiating with brokers and borrowers on a case-by-case basis.
  • Using in-house CRM and workflow system to manage relationships and deal progress.
  • Liaising with customers to assess their progress and strategy.
  • Managing cases through to completion.

You will have access to a specialised training programme covering property finance, law, regulations and valuation and you will work directly alongside senior underwriters, credit managers and have daily communication with company directors.

We operate a balanced approach to working with 4 days a week in the office (Mon-Thurs) and 1 day either working from home or on site visits.

We're committed to hiring graduates with an interest in property finance. You will need to be driven, intelligent and motivated. Applicants need to be personable and fast learning and ideally with a driving license. This is not a basic 9-5 this is a longer working role with significant room for advancement and major learning opportunities about multiple elements of property and finance.

We have hired a number of graduates and there is a clear progression route to full Underwriter, Senior Underwriter and eventually Credit Manager given time and performance.

A typical degree background for this role is real estate, business, finance, economics or maths however we are open to most degrees subject to intelligence, interest and mathematical ability.
