Full job description

As part of an ambitious Mental Health Change Programme, underway since 2021, Cambridge University has delivered rapid growth and strategic development of preventative wellbeing and mental health support. The Student Support Department is pleased to invite applications for the role of Student Wellbeing Adviser on both permanent and fixed-term bases. Reporting to the Head of Student Wellbeing, you will form a newly created Student Wellbeing Team at this transformational time in the University's development of student support provision.

Our vision is that the Student Wellbeing Adviser role at the University of Cambridge will be distinct, exciting and rewarding. You will join a supportive team environment in which to practice their exceptional skills as student wellbeing practitioners, and will benefit from opportunities to develop and contribute to the strategic objectives of our mental health change programme.

The Student Wellbeing Adviser will deliver assessment, triage, referrals and 'one-at-a-time' wellbeing support at the first and second levels of our stepped care approach. You will offer advice and expertise in preventative approaches to student-facing staff within Colleges, Faculties and Departments. The team will serve as a key link within the collegiate university for a developing network of student wellbeing practitioners, working cohesively and collaboratively to inform the University's continuous development in the area of student mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, the Student Wellbeing team will work to enhance proactive wellbeing support, initiatives and communications for students including:

  • Postgraduate taught and research students
  • LGBTQ+ students
  • Global majority students
  • Care-experienced and estranged students

This role will offer you a platform to utilise or develop specialist knowledge on best practice in these areas, with opportunities to support broader strategic initiatives alongside direct support provision as a portion of the role. Candidates with interests in student development and wellbeing in these areas are warmly encouraged to apply, and should make their interest and relevant professional experiences explicitly clear in their application.

Our service is committed to supporting our highly international and diverse student community informed by culturally-competent practice, lived experience and intersectionality. As such, we seek to represent the diversity of our community in the team. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from minoritised ethnic backgrounds for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.

When applying, please upload your CV and cover letter outlining how you meet the criteria set out in the person specification in the Further Particulars.

Please direct informal enquiries to Dr Adam Welstead at adam.welstead@admin.cam.ac.uk

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with adults' barred list).
